Berlin Hiland, against all odds, made it back to the Division IV state title game this season with Detweiler leading the charge. A point guard who is a high level shooter and leader, I was impressed with how Detweiler led his team to multiple playoff comebacks despite the Hawks being down multiple starters due to injury. With his shot-making, play-making and defensive ability, Detweiler separates himself from a lot of other point guards who impact the game in less areas than he does. A kid who has shown the ability to impact winning, take care of the basketball and makes shots? Sounds like a perfect target for small college programs if Detweiler has the interest of continuing his career at the next level.

Despite battling foul trouble, Detweiler finished with a game-high 25 points and hit big time shot after big time shot. A point guard who plays with excellent pace and runs the offense for the Hawks, Detweiler is a flat out winner. Also capable of running off screens and knocking down shots off the catch, Detweiler is a tough cover as you have to always monitor where he is. Maybe the biggest shot of regulation was when Detweiler hit a transition 3-pointer after a loose ball fell into the Hawks lap. If Hiland has a chance to win the championship on Sunday, Detweiler will need to be fantastic once again.

We’ve talked about two teams that got key wins on Friday and followed it up the next day with a strong performance, but Berlin Hiland lost a tough game Friday night to Garaway and followed it up with a statement win over Wayne Trace. Hiland is sound defensively and they make you earn every bucket in the half-court. Offensively, Hiland shot the ball at a high rate from 3-point range and converted a lot of these looks. Detweiler is the guy who makes them go offensively with his dribble-drive and kick game to their shooters. Besides just being a creator for others, Detweiler can really shoot it himself with some rhythm one dribble jumpers. His highlight of the game was a nasty crossover move into a pull-up jumper at the halftime buzzer that was nothing but net. Another team to watch out for in Division IV, Berlin Hiland looks poised to make another deep playoff push.
