About Reyce
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would describe my gameplay style of a blend between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Keyonte George, promising young player with a solid foundation and a clear trajectory for growth. Also I think my play style shows a combination of scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and defensive impact which would make a valuable asset to any team.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
Being an Army kid means you move a lot, so you learn pretty quick that stuff changes, and getting stuck on things doesn't help. If a shot doesn't fall, next play! If we lose, figure out what we can do better next time and move on. My dad always says "Excuses are tools of incompetence," and honestly, that's kind of how I try to live. Don't make excuses control what I can control.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Prior to high school, I was really involved in AVID – it helped me with study skills and planning for college. I also got accepted into the Law and Criminal Justice magnet program at West Creek High, which is super cool and I'm excited to learn more about Law as I would like to study Pre-Law in college.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I’ve learned a lot about teamwork and leadership playing on my AAU and high school teams – we’ve done a bunch of community service together, which is awesome. Helping my mom with her Girl Scouts troop has taught me patience and how to help others, and volunteering with my church for community events just feels good to give back. I think I'm pretty good at working with different people.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
The biggest challenge growing up has definitely been my dad’s service. He’s deployed to Iraq three times, and honestly, those times were really tough. It's hard not knowing if he’s safe, and just missing him for months is a lot. On top of that, moving every three years because of the Army makes it hard to build lasting friendships. It's made me appreciate the time I do have with people.
What type of college are you looking for?
Everyone keeps talking about D1, and yeah, that's the goal! But honestly, I'm looking for a college where I can compete at the highest level possible and contribute to a winning program. A basketball scholarship is a big part of that, of course. More than just the division, I want a school with a good academic environment and coaches who believe in my potential. Somewhere I can grow as a player.
