Reece returns as the Cavaliers’ leading scorer from a season ago. He’s been unlocked in the combo guard role this summer, getting even more freedom to attack the paint and score the basketball. Jackson’s composure, intensity, and overall engagement have improved as well, so he should be an important to piece to their puzzle again this year.

It was a positive first weekend for the new-look Cavaliers, and Reece is a guy who should flourish under the new staff. Jackson was productive in a matchup with Butler (GA) on Saturday, creating several tough buckets for himself off the dribble at multiple levels. There are still plenty of things that Reece can do better, but it was good to see him play well around all the new faces against high-level competition.

Jackson is a playmaker on both ends of the floor with his ability to move his feet well, force turnovers, efficiently knockdown perimeter shots, and pull up in the mid-range. He also excels in the transition after rebounds and steals where he can use his athleticism to finish above retreating defenders. Reece put up 15 points on 3-7 3FG in a game-one loss.

Jackson left a great first impression on me in Rock Hill this weekend. He is a gifted scorer who handles the ball well when looking to create his own looks. Reece is also fast when getting out in transition and can beat defenders in the half-court. When off the ball, Jackson stays active and is an intelligent cutter. The most impressive of Reece’s buckets was a stepback jumper in the second half where he created a mile of space and elevated with good form from the floor up.
