Uzgiris, a forward out of the St. Luke’s School in Connecticut, made things official with a commitment to Brown University. The 7’0″ big really turned a corner in his development this offseason and now has cemented his status as a future Ivy-Leaguer. He’s gotten himself into better shape, which improved his conditioning, burst, and athleticism and has translated to his game on both ends of the floor. He can really protect the basket, when walling up or when sliding over from the help side and is an active and aggressive rebounder. Offensively, he does a nice job of rim running in transition, is a big target on the block, and is finishing with more authority around the basket. It’s a quality piece for Brown and he should have a nice four-year career in the Ivy League.

The 7’0″ big is one of the most improved prospects in the region, turning heads this summer and asserting himself as a Division I prospect. He has elite size for the position, has drastically improved his conditioning, and is playing the best basketball of his career as of late. He can protect the rim, particularly when sliding over from a help position, does a nice job of keeping opposing bigs off the glass, and has more lateral mobility than he gets credit for. Offensively, his athleticism has improved and with good hands, he’s a threat to catch and finish everything around the rim. He put an end to his recruitment earlier this summer with a commitment to Brown.

He looked much more agile, athletic, and mobile than the last time I saw him play and as such, was playing with more confidence on both ends of the floor. He sets solid screens, can score with either hand around the basket, and does a nice job of passing out of the paint when doubles come. Defensively, he does a nice job of protecting the basket in rotation and has become a more physical present on the glass. He recently announced his commitment to Brown.

One of the most physically imposing prospects in New England, Uzgiris is another 7-footer with broad shoulders and a big frame. He plays with physicality on both ends of the floor, showing good instincts on the offensive glass and the ability to keep opponents away from the rim defensively. He sets solid screens on offense, has a huge catch radius, and does a nice job of passing out of the post when double teams come. On top of that, he’s a vocal presence on the back line of the defense.

The 7’0” center made his presence felt early, battling through traffic to secure multiple offensive rebounds and finish strong at the rim. As the night progressed, he showcased sharp decision-making on each possession, scoring efficiently or anticipating double teams with poise. He also demonstrated his shooting touch, confidently stepping out to knock down shots from the perimeter.

His wide body punishes weaker opponents and his soft touch around the rim makes him deadly within ten feet. He also has a push shot that he effectively uses in post-play. Uzgiris has long arms and he uses that in many different facets of his game. His rebounding is terrific, making him a double-double threat every time out. Uzgiros long arms and large frame also help rack up blocks as he can swat balls without a huge amount of effort. Uzgiris needs to become more athletic to help him move his feet better, but overall he’s an exceptionally talented player who will only get better during his high school career.
