Physically, Jones stands out as a man amongst boys, using his size, strength, and athleticism to control the paint. Payton makes a big impact as a rim protector and shot-blocker. With his impressive length, mobility, and relentless pursuit of rebounds, he consistently changes the flow of a game. Most of his scoring currently comes around the basket; Jones is a force inside. This winter could be the season he puts it all together and solidifies himself as a difference-maker for the Spartans.

Jones is a true Big that was moved up to the Freshman/Sophomore team for Spearfish last season. Runs well up and down the court. Plays with toughness and a motor. He will seal his man hard in the post, looking for an entry pass. Crashes the boards, getting deep near the rim area. He makes it a point to find a body to box out on the defensive end. He’ll contest shooters hard on the perimeter. He did have a little trouble staying in front on the perimeter drive. Jones is most likely a top 25 prospect in the class, with room for upside if he continues to grow taller. To be considered a college prospect he’ll need to grow because he’s not a jump-shooter.
