Troy Christian got the biggest win of the day, taking down the host Titans for their best win of the season. Penrod is already committed and looking to end his high school career with a deep playoff run. This win shows what type of potential Troy Christian has in the playoffs. I was impressed by Penrod’s shot-making ability and using his quickness to pull-up. A big time competitor, Penrod makes impact plays on both ends and his energy drives the rest of his team.

Another guard who impressed me this spring, I caught Penrod alongside

at the Midwest Jamfest in Indianapolis back in early May. Penrod is an undersized guard but has a lot of wiggle with the ball in his hands. A dangerous shooter from the outside, Penrod connected on 48 3-pointers as a Junior which allowed him to finish third in his conference at 16.9 PPG. I thought Penrod’s biggest jump came physically from last summer and that’s allowed him to compete as a defender more easily. While there will still be questions due to his size, I thought his effort levels were high and he was usually in the right place defensively, which is a prerequisite for undersized guards to last at the college level.

One of the smallest guys on the court no matter where he’s playing at, Penrod makes up for it with skill and heart. An excellent shooter, Penrod was making shots off the bounce and the catch from behind the 3-point line all weekend, he hit three 3’s in the first few minutes against Hopson Elite. The biggest offensive question for Penrod will be whether he can create space against top athletes and there were moments where he got room to pull-up and others where he struggled to get by the initial defender. Defensively I was encouraged by what I saw from Penrod, his size is obviously a limiting factor but he competed on that end and wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line and take a charge. I expect Penrod to receive a lot of interest from small college programs before the summer is complete.

Penrod is a prospect who got on our radar at the Prep Hoops Grit Memorial Classic with impressive performances. Penrod is an undersized guard but the lefty showed the ability to score against top competition at that event. Penrod is a small school standout at the high school level and averaged 13 PPG as a Sophomore, I’d expect that number to drastically increase as a Junior.
