Biliew was ranked #1 in the state in the 2023 class when he moved away to play at Link Academy. At the time, the ranking was based more on his long-term potential and blend of unique size and athleticism. He’s moved back to Iowa now, and that #1 ranking in the state is now based entirely on his unique blend of size, athleticism, and incredible talent. He has put in a tremendous amount of work since he last played in Iowa, improving as a ball-handler, shot creator, shot maker, rebounder, defender. It’s easy to see why he’s a top-10 national recruit who is likely destined to play in the NBA, which is something I have never written about a player in this state, because I don’t believe in hyperbole. He’s an electric athlete that people around the state need to appreciate this year, because he’s the best prospect the state has seen since Harrison Barnes was ranked #1 nationally over a decade ago. He had 27 points (9-13 FG, 3-5 3P, 6-7 FT), 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and an assist in the Warriors’ narrow loss to Northwest in a #1 vs. #2 matchup.

Biliew has been a top-10 national prospect in the 2023 class essentially since before his freshman year at Dowling Catholic. Back then, his ranking was based more on his athleticism and long-term potential. Now, that ranking is extremely warranted. After spending his junior year at Link Academy (MO), Biliew has really improved his all-around offensive game, tightening up his handle, smoothening his footwork, and improving his jumper. When you pair his much-improved offensive game with the length, athleticism, and instincts as a defender, you have a potential future NBA player. (For a look at his much-improved offensive game, take a look at the open gym highlights from Courtside Films below.) He has committed to play his college ball at Iowa State.

playing high school basketball in Iowa, he was helping lead Waukee to the 4A state championship. He then spent a year at Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, but he’s back in Iowa now, and he will be the top-ranked player in the 2023 class when we update the rankings, overtaking Sandfort. A dynamic athlete with outstanding length and the ability to impact the game at an incredible level on both ends of the floor, Biliew spent that year at Link improving his offensive game, which will make him a deadly two-way player as a senior for the Warriors. He has committed to play his college ball at Iowa State.
