About Oliver

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

On the court, I am competitive but level-headed. I am an all-around fundamental player. I believe basketball is a team sport and have a vision for play strategy when it comes to a solid team atmosphere.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am competitive, determined, and love to challenge myself as an athlete. I have been a gym member since I was 14 and do physical training several times a week on my own. The other sports that I play are in preparation for the basketball season. I want to work in sports as a career, possibly as an athletic trainer or physical therapist.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm a student at River Valley Technical Center completing my certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've learned in the last year that leadership is so important to lifting up your team and creating a healthy and successful environment. I've tried to speak up and be stronger for my teammates. I have been working and doing job shadows this year and will be doing a facilities management internship during my second semester at our local recreation center.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My health has been a huge challenge throughout my life, specifically having three ear surgeries and adjusting to losing 60% of my hearing in my left ear. Last year I got really sick and was diagnosed with an over-training syndrome which forced me to stop all physical activity for weeks at a time for about 6 months. It was a very challenging time but I learned a lot.

What type of college are you looking for?

A supportive college with resources to help me with my academics if I need it. I'd like to be in a larger town or a small city where there are things to do and experience. I hope college is a place where I can meet a lot of people, make friends, and come out of it ready for success.
