This dude played out of his mind in his last career high school game and shot the cover off the basketball. With some 3-pointers that were 3-4 feet behind the college line, Butterfield was playing with tremendous confidence. His shot to tie the game in the fourth quarter was one of the biggest plays all night and Butterfield continues to impress as a perimeter shot maker. High level performance on the big stage from the senior.

Few players stretch the floor at Butterfield’s size like he can and basketball can be a simple game when you are making shots. That’s what Butterfield did with a handful of catch and shoot buckets off kickouts, spot-ups or BLOB sets. Impressive shooting versatility and passing by Butterfield’s teammates to hit him ready to shoot.

has taken advantage with some huge performances. Not many players at his size can catch fire from 3-point range like he can and in the latest showcase event that Olentangy Liberty played at, Butterfield led his team with 16 points. We’ll see how far Olentangy Liberty can go in March with one of the bigger starting lineups in the state.

Butterfield has expanded his game a little bit since I first started watching him at the 16 U level. Another high academic player, Butterfield is an elite shooter from the outside and is showing some more off the dribble confidence as well. It’s nice that Butterfield has done a little more of attacking closeouts without playing out of control. Olentangy Liberty should be one of the top teams in central Ohio this winter due to their size and shooting, two areas where Butterfield impacts the game.

I’ve watched Butterfield a ton over the past 12 months, with Olentangy Liberty as a Junior, with Midwest Gold in the summer and at the Midwest Fall League. I think he’s shown considerable growth over that time in each spot he’s played in and had a confident showing against Lutheran East. Always been a knockdown shooter, Butterfield hit some quick release shots against hard closeouts on Saturday. I also thought he looked more confident with the ball and is becoming a wing forward instead of just a stretch-4 on the court. Also playing tough through contact, Butterfield had multiple and-1’s in the paint.

Butterfield caught fire in his first game on Saturday by making it rain from downtown. An excellent shooter for his size, Butterfield does a nice job of moving without the basketball and spacing the floor. After knocking down a couple 3-pointers, Butterfield started cutting to the rim and getting easy layup looks due to this movement. Also grabbed a couple offensive rebounds with his height and length, Butterfield is one of the more talented players in the fall league.

A stretch wing forward, Butterfield is an elite shooter off the catch who can get hot in a hurry if you leave him open. His size plus shooting ability will get him on small college radars. Olentangy Liberty has a ton of size this season and Butterfield will be a key floor spacer. If they can get good guard play, they could be one of the top teams in central Ohio. We’ll definitely be following Butterfield this winter to see if he shows any new aspects of his game we didn’t get to see in the summer and see how his body continues to mature.

Butterfield is a very nice modern player who will help your team out at the next level. He is listed at 6’5 and has a long wingspan. He moves well and is a nice athlete. He can guard multiple positions because of his length and height. The best part of his game is his shooting ability. He has great footwork and reads screens perfectly every time. He comes off screens ready to shoot and it is up quick. He has confidence and hunts his shooting space so he can score. I like this 6’5 shooter for Olentangy Liberty.

Butterfield was another prospect who caught my eye at Midwest Live with Olentangy Liberty. He had some big games with Midwest Basketball Club McElroy this summer as well. Butterfield showed the ability to hit an open jumper, moved well without the ball and attacked a closeout after using a pump fake to get a defender in the air. Once he adds strength as he matures physically, he’ll be even tougher to stop in the paint. I expect Butterfield to blossom into a small college target starting next spring.
