Carey Smith | Prep Hoops Scout
164 to 155…After an outstanding stretch of games during fall ball action, Smith came into the 2024-25 season as one of the favorites to win the Bicentennial Athletic League POY Award. Then Smith opened the season by posting a 30-piece (4 threes) in a win over Plumstead Christian. He followed that performance with a 16-point (1 3PM) effort against Great Valley. Smith is a dynamic athlete with the speed, agility, and hops to excel in the open court. His ability to pick an opponent’s pocket and then go coast-to-coast for a hoop is impressive. In half-court possessions Smith can score off straight line drives to the rack and drain threes. He will also slash back door for a catch and lay-in. On defense, Smith is an underrated shot blocker.

Smith is one of the front runners for the 2024-25 Bicentennial Athletic League POY Award and after his performance on Tuesday night it is easy to see why. Smith scored at every level in the half court and was unstoppable in transition as he poured in 30 points during Church Farm’s win over Plumsted Christian. In addition to scoring, Smith (1st Team All-BAL last season) worked as a primary ball handler where he displayed tight handles, a high IQ and solid live dribble passing skills. His ability to operate off DHO action was impressive.

During his junior campaign Smith posted 17 points along with 6 rebounds per night and was a 1st Team All-League selection. After a monster summer on the HGSL circuit, we are expecting that Smith’s stat lines will be even more impressive in 2024-25. Smith is a two-way playmaker with length and speed. He has a knack for turning defensive stops into transition baskets. On half-court possessions Smith will beat his defender off the dribble and get to his mid-range spots or all the way to the cup. He can also lace triples from all around the arc. Smith’s well timed off ball movement frequently produces quick catch and lay-ins for him. College coaches are sleeping on this versatile two-guard / wing.
