Naron Jackson
About Naron
Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
He provided a spark in a reserve role, scoring nine points, including five in the fourth quarter, and made the most of his opportunities at the foul line. He did a nice job touching the paint on the attack and putting pressure on the defense. He did leave a few points on the board, and improving his ability to finish in traffic and around crowds would help his production. Defensively, he was able to turn defense into offense by jumping into passing and driving lanes.

Jackson makes an impact on the game in a plethora of different ways. He has no issues picking up full-court. Jackson has a nice vision of the floor and was able to find others for scoring opportunities and isn’t afraid to use a bounce pass. He made more than a handful of trips to the free thrown line but he left some points on the board due to the fact he missed a few chances from there. He likes to get paint touches and then take advantages of mismatches by exploiting them down low. Jackson went out of his way to pull down rebounds. I challenge Jackson to become more of a threat from behind the arc he can give off vibes of being a reluctant shooter. Jackson should be a priority recruit at the small college level.

Jackson thrives finishing around the rim in transition and likes to show he can stop on the dime and hit a mid-range when the opportunity presents itself. He uses his wiry frame to wiggle to spots off the dribble.

Once he gains a step, Jackson finishes exceptionally well around the rim. He has the strength and body control to absorb contact and still convert acrobatic layups. is already establishing himself as one of the premier point guards in the Pittsburgh City League. His most evident skill is his ability to handle the basketball. He has a tight, polished handle, and Jackson changes speeds and directions with ease. He excels at getting all the way to the rim. Jackson also shows a deft shooting touch from the midrange off the bounce. However, he is far more than just a scoring threat. Jackson understands how to run a team and involve his teammates. He pushes the pace in transition while also making smart reads and delivering crisp passes in the half-court. Jackson’s natural floor generalship is exceptional. What makes the young guard truly special is the effortlessness and smoothness with which he plays. He never seems to be going at 100% speed, yet he glides past defenders with his fluid handle. Everything for Jackson appears to be in total control at all times.
