In front of a sold out home crowd, Montgomery dominated the first half and fueled Minford to a rivalry victory over previously unbeaten South Webster on Friday night. One of the quickest point guards in the state, the Jeeps simply could not stay in front of Montgomery as he was able to get to his spots to pull-up and knock down jumpers. Defensively, Montgomery picked the pockets of multiple South Webster ball handlers and turned those steals into layups on the other end. With West Liberty’s frantic style of play pressing the entire game, I’m not sure how many players in Ohio are easier fits than Montgomery is for that system, a hand in glove fit at the next level.

Another West Liberty commit, Montgomery is a standout on the soccer field as he’s helped Minford become a southeast Ohio powerhouse in the fall and winter. Earlier in a game this season Montgomery had four assists in a win over Mcdermott Northwest and also had two goals and an assist in a win over Lucasville Valley.

The Minford duo has been inseparable together as the Kayser-Montgomery duo have elevated the Falcons program and have attended visits to regional scholarship programs together. An undersized point guard, Montgomery competes on the defensive end of the court and doesn’t let his size stop him from being a pest. Love the competitiveness Montgomery plays with and how he just helps you win at the high school and grassroots level. A point guard who will defend the length of the court, push in transition and make perimeter shots when left open, Montgomery checks a lot of boxes that college coaches look for in a floor general.

Really competing on both ends of the court, Montgomery is one of the toughest point guards in the 2025 class. That’s a requirement standing at 5’9 as Montgomery flies across the court pressuring the ball and trying to prevent ball handlers from getting where they want to go. Playing with a sense of urgency on both ends of the court, Montgomery is a perfect fit for a high pressure and fast tempo system that his team runs. His importance to the team was also clear as Montgomery had to miss the last pool play game for prom, they fell in a tight battle.

The second part of the Minford duo, Montgomery is a multi-sport athlete but in a unique way compared to most basketball studs. Montgomery scored a goal in the Falcons in their sectional championship over Warren. A prospect who has been on our radar since his freshman season, Montgomery is one of the top guards in southeast Ohio.
