Mykelti Dillard-Smith
About Mykelti
Expert Analysis
Jack Pfeiffer | Prep Hoops Scout
Mykelti has continued to impress me with the way he can make scoring the ball look so easy and effortless. He has a knack for knocking down tough shots and has a deep bag he can go to to break down a defender. He is so good at creating shots using the dribble and utilized crossovers and step backs to get separation from opponents. He forced some turnovers on defense as well, resulting in a lot of easy layups on the other end. The unsigned senior has extreme confidence when he has the ball in his hands and averaged double-digits in the scoring department for Minneapolis South this season.

If Poet was not scoring, it was Mykelti doing the job. The senior guard ended the game with 17 points, scoring those baskets in a variety of ways. He stands at around six feet, but has a pretty stocky build. This allowed him to get down hill and absorb some contact for some makes. He out-muscled defenders in a couple of different situations. He was frequently drawing fouls, with 7 of his 17 points coming from the charity stripe. He also found himself in the right place at the right time, allowing him to get some fast break opportunities. His shots were not falling from the outside on Thursday, but he is a willing shooter from beyond the arc. Dillard is a very confident scorer who is averaging double-digits this season.

South lost a ton of talent to transfers since last season, but the addition of Mykelti looks to have helped pick up on some of that lost production. Against North’s high pressure defense he was one of the few players staying composed on the ball and confidently looking to score. He has a strong frame and it allowed him to power his way to the basket, scoring off the drive as well as off of some offensive rebounds. Late in the second half he hit a key stepback three to help pull South back into the game and give them a chance late. Finished the game with 21 points pushing North down to the final seconds.
