PHD: Walk me through your off-season. What did you do to improve your basketball game?

“My off-season was very busy but successful, from traveling to MN every Tuesday & Thursday to having tourneys every weekend. But not many people see the early mornings and all the sessions a day. Especially attending a lot of big camps and tournaments, like the Kyrie circuit, to EYBL+Made Hoops.“

PHD: What’s one specific part of your game you focused on improving this offseason, and where do you feel like you’ve made the most progress?

“The most I wanted to improve on is my attacking the rim at a high level, because I know I already have a outside shot. So I think that’s what I really improved on.“

PHD: What does your fall look like right now? Are you playing another sport, or is it all basketball focused?

“No other sports, just basketball, lifting & cardio every morning and after school.“

PHD: What are your goals for the coming season, both individually and for your team?

“My goal is the avg more than 19ppg and as a team goal is to make a State appearance.“

PHD: Can you give some insight on an influential coach you have had? What made them memorable?

“A couple of coaches/trainers are Coach Brandon from Sizzle in MN & Coach TJ from Venoms in Rapid City. From having out-of-state tournaments to having early morning training and workouts. Not only are they teaching me lessons and skills on the court, but they are most definitely teaching me skills off the court.“

PHD: Time to give a shout to a teammate…Who do we need to know about from your high school team?

“After transferring to Lower Brule HS, I say keep an eye out for my brother Quentin HisLaw Quentin HisLaw 6'0" | CG Lower Brule | 2031 SD . Only an 8th grader with high potential.“

PHD: Who is your favorite player to watch in college or the NBA, and why?

“College would have to be Tahaad Pettiford, who shows straight toughness and effort on defense. NBA is Kyrie, just a straight dog with crazy handles.“

PHD: Where do you feel like your game has grown the most in the past year or two?

“My game definitely grew with my shot-making ability from inside the point to outside threes.“

PHD: Who pushes you the hardest, whether that’s a teammate, a coach, or someone you train with?

“I say my dad pushes me the hardest, from the after-game talks to outside workouts.“

PHD: Where is your hot spot on the floor or can you tell us about a “go-to” move you like to use?

“My hot spot is definitely top key three, & go-to move is hesi cross over to a mid-range shot.“

-I knew he could score the rock and he passed the test on Saturday

-Smooth and accurate 3-point shooter, knocked down many

-Faster than I realized, has some tough takes & slashes

-Crafty & creative finisher, looks bigger in-person

-Multi-level scorer, he is going to tear it up in Class B this season

-Very skilled ball player, smooth with the rock, gifted offensively

-Handles are impressive, serious scorer, knockdown jump shooter

How does he hold on on defense vs. bigger/aggressive guards?

-Talented youngster, astute handles, artful and sly with the rock

-Knockdown shooter from beyond the 3-point arc, extended range

-Soft-touch shooter, feathery release, hit off the catch & via the pull-up

-Drops & dishes dimes, sees the floor well, willing passer, sets up teammates

-Intrigued with his hesi-moves & ability to create space for a ’29 guard

-Impressive floater game, creates TO & turns them into points in transition

Already trusted with the keys to the offense, Miles Thompson Miles Thompson 6'0" | PG Lower Brule | 2029 State SD has wasted no time making an impact as a freshman point guard for Chamberlain, and it is clear the Cubs have a special young talent on their hands. Despite his youth, Thompson plays with poise and confidence, doing an excellent job controlling the pace of the game while keeping the offense organized. He currently leads the team in assists, a testament to his vision and feel for getting teammates in the right spots and flowing smoothly in and out of sets. What stands out most is Thompson’s maturity and basketball IQ. He sees the floor extremely well for his age and makes smart decisions with the ball, often looking like a player well beyond his years. Thompson also adds an offensive punch by knocking down shots from the perimeter, and he competes on the defensive end with a scrappy edge that belies his size. With his early impact and advanced feel for the game, the future looks very bright for Miles Thompson Miles Thompson 6'0" | PG Lower Brule | 2029 State SD and the Chamberlain program.

Prior to the tournament, I had only seen highlights of Miles. They were some impressive highlights for a 2029 guard, and he backed things up at Stomping Grounds. He looked the part and was very dynamic. His ball-handling was on another level, which made him a frequent visitor to the deep part of the lane right at the hoop. He can stop-and-pop a three, so he needs to be guarded from there as well. A tough defensive matchup for his opponents.
