Clanton, a forward out of Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts, is a mismatch nightmare at the forward position that plays with a lot of versatility on the offensive end of the floor. He’s a good athlete that has an incredibly long wingspan, plays with a high motor as a low post scorer and offensive rebounder, and has expanded his offensive game out to the perimeter. He’s a hard cover in transition with his combination of athleticism and finishing ability and even shows the ability to attack closeouts on the perimeter in the half-court. Defensively, he’s a quality rebounder that can guard in space when needed and blocks shots at a high level as a help defender. He’s a scholarship level prospect that should be a quality late score for whatever program decides to extend an offer.

Clanton is such a fascinating watch. He’s undersized against almost every big man he faces, but he consistently bullies them under the rim and somehow gets floaters and touch shots off against guys who seem like they should be able to block and overwhelm him. He has really good touch around the rim and an awesome motor that allows him to play his best ball late in games, and he can even step out and make shots if he’s going against a slow-footed big man. Clanton has heavy interest from the D3 level, but I wonder if any scholarship schools could get involved.

Clanton wasn’t Phillips Andover’s leading scorer against Suffield, but he was the most dominant player on the floor. The 6-foot-6 forward completely bullied the opposing front-line for offensive rebounds, put backs, and and-ones. He even hit some mid-range jumpers and defended his behind off. Clanton got hacked and finished through contact all night, and it was incredibly impressive how he seemed to get fresher and stronger as the game went on. He’s a stud who will probably end up at an excellent D3 school.

Clanton, a senior forward out of Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts, is coming off of a dominant three-game stretch in which he averaged 20.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. The 6’6″ forward has a massive wingspan, that when combined with his frame and athleticism, allows him to make plays all over the floor on the offensive side of the basketball. He can knock down shots from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations, does a nice job of finishing in the post against smaller defenders, and even shows the ability to make plays from the perimeter as a straight-line driver. When his motor is all the way up, he’s an incredibly tough cover for opponents.

Clanton, a guard out of Phillips Andover Academy in Massachusetts, makes his first appearance in the rankings at #112. A high academic prospect, Clanton came to New England for a post-graduate year and has quickly become an important piece for Andover. The 6’6″ wing is a big time athlete that finishes plays with authority around the rim. He’s hard to guard in transition, particularly with the ball in his hands, and also shows a high level feel for the game as an off-ball cutter. Defensively, he can guard up and down a position, makes plays in passing lanes, and is a plus defensive rebounder.

Clanton was dominant in Phillips Andover’s win against NMH on Saturday morning. The 6-foot-6 post grad has incredible strength and athleticism, so when he gets a rebound on the defensive end, he’s almost always off to the races. He shucks people off like they’re JV players, and then he can elevate above the rim for finishes. Clanton is out of control at times, but D3 programs should be incredibly intrigued by his potential.

There’s no doubt that Clanton looks a bit awkward at times; the 6-foot-5 forward can sometimes go too fast for his own good. But when he’s controlled and stays within himself, the post grad is quite effective as a small ball big man. He has excellent athleticism at the hoop and does a great job grabbing and going with defensive rebounds. He had a couple massive dunks where he put the ball in his right hand and elevated like Dr. J. He also has a blooming mid range and three point jumper. I view Clanton as a relatively high level D3 guy, and he has the grades to back that up, too.
