Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Leese, a freshman, has been unbelievable while playing up with Middlesex Magic’s 16u UAA squad. The 6-foot-6 wing was second on the team in points and rebounds, first in blocks with 9 (!), and shot 41% from three on more threes than anyone else on the squad. So, you could make an argument he has been the team’s most productive player, and he’s a wing/forward who’s playing up. He has a quick shot release that he makes quite consistently, but he has also done a better job using his strength and size to protect the rim defensively and be physical in the paint on both ends and on the boards than I’ve seen him in the past. Leese has an extremely bright future ahead and is going to be far more prepared at Nobles next year given the experience he’s getting with the Magic this spring.

Leese, a forward out of the Noble and Greenough School in Massachusetts, is the #3 ranked small forward and checks in at #8 overall. The 6’6″ forward has done a nice job of adjusting to NEPSAC play, showing plus instincts, a high level of skill, and an understanding of how to play within team principles on both ends of the floor. He’s 6’6″ with broad shoulders and a strong frame, both of which allow him to play with some physicality in the paint. He excels off the ball as a scorer, showing good footwork around the basket and the ability to really make shots from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations. He’s already carved out a big role at Nobles and will be a player to watch for the next three years in the NEPSAC.

I’m unsure whether Leese will start for Nobles this season, but the freshman has more potential than anyone else on their squad. The 6-foot-6 wing is a phenomenal shooter who has one of the quicker releases I’ve seen for a guy his size at his age. He’s also a surprisingly good closeout attacker and is more athletic and feisty on the boards than you’d think given his body type and age. As he continues to grow and mature physically, his skillset will shine through even more. All three levels of college basketball are on the table for Leese, who could make a big time impact towards the end of this season for a really solid Nobles team.

Leese, a forward out of Noble and Greenough School in Massachusetts, has made his mark as a floor spacer that consistently puts the basketball in the bucket. At 6’6″, he has mismatch potential with his combination of perimeter skill and length on the interior. He does a great job of moving without the basketball, is quick to get into his shot off the catch, and is a high level threat in pick and pop situations. Defensively, he’s capable of guarding four positions, showing an understanding of how to play angles and how to use his length to his advantage.

Leese has a chance to burst onto the scene this winter as one of the better 2029’s in New England. The Noble & Greenough wing had a productive first year at the high school level before electing to transfer and reclassify. At 6’6″, he has great size on the wing and combines that with a good feel for the game with the ball in his hands. He’s a knockdown shooter in catch and shoot situations, but profiles as a big decision maker who can handle in the half-court and shows good floor vision as a faciliator. Defensively, he can guard up and down a position, knows where to be in rotations, and does a nice job of starting the break off of defensive rebounds.

Leese, a member of the 15U UAA squad, is a versatile wing out of Newton South. A big playmaker, he has some real wiggle off the bounce and shows impressive vision as a passer when he gets downhill. At 6’4″, he has the ability to see over the defense as a facilitator and with a compact and quick release on his jumper, the ability to get his shot off at any time. He’s a high IQ cutter, can finish with some creativity at the rim, and continues to improve his efficiency as a perimeter shooter. On the defensive end of the floor, he can rebound in traffic and in space, while also showing the ability to guard up and down a position. Additionally, he uses his length and IQ to his advantage when making plays in passing lanes.
