Michael Jones Lloyd
About Michael
Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Michael brings value as a big presence on the floor who consistently impacts the game through rebounding and defense. He attacks the glass at a high level and plays with nonstop energy on the defensive end. Offensively, he does a great job finishing in close range and using his body to score through contact around the rim. Michael flashes some shot-creating ability at times when can slashing to the basket and getting a bucket off his own dribble. The upside with Michael is the potential for his perimeter game to become more consistent. If he can develop that it will raise his ceiling significantly.

. At 6-foot-7 with an enticing frame and flashes of versatility, he has the tools to be a matchup problem for opponents. Lloyd displays natural instincts on both ends of the floor but is truly just beginning to harness his abilities as a long-term piece. He does a little bit of everything while showing the ability to guard multiple positions and operate in various roles on offense. Lloyd scored on several back to the basket moves scoring over either shoulder with jump hooks and mixing it up with his downhill drives and quality looks in the midrange. The potential is clear.

Junior forward Michael Jones-Lloyd showed pretty well in his team’s down-to-the-wire Championship game. Stretched his impact beyond just scoring the ball. He showed he can be a reliable player down the stretch that can make winning plays. Finished well at the basket although he could’ve been stronger with the body a couple times. Played some efficient defense and helped with his height against a smaller Riverdale B squad.

Jones-Lloyd’s activity in Friendship’s double-overtime loss to Riverdale Baptist was impossible to overlook. The 6-foot-7 mobile forward was protecting the rim with pride on the defensive end and while he only registered one block for the contest, his activity and quick rotations were enough to alter shots or steer the opposing guards away from the paint. He did a nice job of playing out of screens in short rolls and even showed off some nice touch from three in crunch time as he buried a critical three. The size, budding skill and untapped potential are all reasons for Lloyd to be on radars as he continues to develop into a hard working four man with wing potential in the long-term.

Michael Jones-Lloyd has a lot of upside and opportunity in his game. This is the season for him to establish himself as one of the premier bigs in the area. He will share his minutes in the frontcourt but will see the floor consistently if he can produce. Michael exhibits nice athleticism and timing that helps him on the glass and defensive end. He can defend the rim very effectively which is a huge plus. Working hard on being a consistent jumpshooter and I feel that will come over more and more time. An athlete that can make the winning plays necessary to help lift his team over the top. Excited to see Jones-Lloyd in action starting with this Live period.

2p 4r 1s vs Christ School
-Coach Shack inserted Lloyd into the game after a starter went down early in the 1H with an injury and the sophomore W/F prospect did not disappoint when called upon in this game. An athletic hustle guy that was first to the floor for several long rebounds and to corral deflections, he did a great job of throwing his body around in the paint to fight a HM commit for boards around the rim. As he develops and adds more muscle on an already-stocky frame, I expect him to play through more and more contact around the basket to be a force in the paint for Tech Prep for the next three years.

Developing young big wing. Played a little unsure of himself during his playing time against Virginia Academy. But Michael’s length and athleticism is noticeable showing the ability to hit the boards pulling down 4 rebounds in 8 minutes of playing time. Look for his offensive game to improve with more playing time and confidence.
