He’s shown he can take over stretches of games, highlighted by recent breakout scoring performances that showcase his offensive upside. Coaches are drawn to his blend of athleticism and poise—he doesn’t shy away from the moment and embraces the responsibility of running a team. As a primary ball-handler, he’s learning how to balance playmaking with aggressive scoring, and the flashes are becoming more consistent.

Michael was a top-level playmaker for his Waxahachie team in their win over Summer Creek. Gatewood constantly finds his teammates open and is a prolific scorer when the Indians need a bucket. Michael uses speed and shiftiness to beat his matchup and get to his spots on offense. He is fluent in transition and can either make the right pass or contort his body to finish at the rim. This was my first time getting to watch Gatewood and he was very impressive in the way he approaches the game with high IQ and consistent play at the PG slot.
