Starting off our breakdown of Team 7 at the Prep Hoops Indiana Expo is Max Buening Max Buening 6'2" | SG/PG Greensburg Community High School | 2028 IN of Greensburg High School. Right away, you notice when watching Buening that he is a super aggressive guard who wants to compete on both ends of the floor. He had a nice steal that resulted in a layup in one of the games I saw him play and was always willing to compete on the glass. A very strong attacker off the wing.

Max Buening is a problem for opposing offenses. What stands out about him is his effort on defense. Just a really scrappy player who chases down loose passes, displays good timing with his hands to force steals, and plays with a good base. Really came alive on offense late in the game, hitting a couple of pull-up jumpers.

One of the top stock-risers from our event on Sunday, and a name that really caught our attention this summer overall, was this 6’2″ junior guard from Greensburg High School. Buening is an excellent athlete with explosive leaping ability at the end of his drives. He will go up and dunk on you if you aren’t ready to contest him. The talented guard is definitely at his best when attacking downhill, but he showed the ability to make jump shots as well to keep the defense honest. Look for him to have a big junior season for the Pirates.

We got a chance to see Buening play at the Charlie Hughes Showcase in June with Greensburg High School and came away very impressed. The 6’2″ guard caught the attention of everyone in the gym with a couple of drives and head-turning, athletic dunks. The explosive athleticism is certainly there, but he pairs it with some legitimate perimeter skills as well. He is a high-upside Class of 2028 prospect that is starting to see his stock rise. The Expo could be the next launching point for him.

A talented 6’2″ guard from Greensburg High School, Buening is a good perimeter shooting threat with solid positional size and athleticism. In 3-on-3 action he consistently made plays when the ball came to him and then he helped to space the floor in 5-on-5 action due to his catch-and-shoot prowess. Buening also looks very comfortable with the ball in his hands. He can attack closeouts, drive it in a straight line from the perimeter, operate in transition, and make on-target passes from a live dribble. It was a good showing for him at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp.
