I wanted to give Mav a final mention, as he put together a great Senior campaign and career. He stepped up and was one of the states top scorers, coming in at the 20 points per game mark. A solid overall profile, just lacking some quick-twitch athleticism and explosiveness.

I’ve mentioned Maverick’s upcoming breakout a couple of times in the past, but I wanted to reiterate. Sioux Valley will have to retool some, and part of the equation is Maverick Nelson Maverick Nelson 6'3" | SG Sioux Valley | 2025 State SD stepping up in a major way. I think he’ll need to be around the 20 points per game mark.

-Impressed me late spring with his fluid & smooth shooting from 3-point land

-Looks to have added muscle, strength, speed, explosion, and overall skill

-Top-notch feel for the game, menacing O-playmaker, takes what the D gives him

WHY?

He looks bigger, faster, and stronger. Nelson is a skilled baller with a great feel for the game. He is known as a marksman from three-point land and I have seen him put on a shooting display in person. Mav is much more than a shooter, he showed me that he is a slasher, gets to the rim, and scores from mid-range. He had an outstanding summer with the Cossacks and has put up some huge games. Mav recently went off for 7 triples in a game with Sioux Valley. PHD is expecting a massive senior season from Mr. Nelson.
