About Matthew

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Basketball has been my passion since I was a kid and I pride myself on being a versatile, high-IQ player who competes on both ends of the floor. I’m comfortable creating plays for teammates, attacking off the dribble and defending every position on the floor. More importantly, I am a high motor player that brings energy, leadership and a team-first mentality to every game and practice.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Off the court, I maintain strong academics, stay active in my church and community and believe in leading with character and humility.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

National Honor Society, Student Council, Young Life

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Team Captain roles on my various teams and leadership roles in the various clubs have helped mold my team-first mentality. Volunteering and Community Service through my church have allowed me to learn to lead with humility and character.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I’ve been blessed enough to not have any challenges put in front of me that I haven’t been able to overcome or have forced me to not be able to look on the bright side of the situation. Injuries, AAU team and teammate changes, bumps in the road and detours are all part of the journey of life. I trust the process and am excited about where this path takes me.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a program that values player development, strong culture and academic excellence. Just as importantly, I want to be part of a college culture that encourages faith, character and integrity both on and off the court.

Defensively, he thrives with versatility, able to defend in space, hedge, recover, rotate, and guarding multiple positions. Offensively, he doesn’t force the issue, instead relying on feel, vision, and toughness to keep his team in rhythm. He’s the type of player who consistently outworks opponents, hustling on the glass, diving for loose balls, and anchoring the defense while playing the passing lanes. His energy and competitive edge can set a tone for a team every possession.
