It almost feels like a broken record for the hard playing guard. Mason simply gets it done. His combination of a good first step, power and simple “want to” leads to him always finding his way to the rim. One of the best examples of him willing it to happen came when he got a paint touch. Made the right kick out to a teammate for a three, then got the miss for a putback. There’s seemingly always a couple moments like that where he makes winning plays that either steal his teams a couple points. Or he makes a block or transition effort to help save two points on defense. Effort, athleticism and impacting winning should make Mason a target for regional colleges.

Mason continues to be one of the more explosive athletes in Oklahoma’s Class of 2027. Strong and gets off the floor quickly for powerful drives. Often ending in big time slams when he gets a runway. Is agile enough to avoid contact around the run, or take bumps and still finish strongly. Is one of the hardest playing prospects in Oklahoma. When he finds his rhythm from three, good luck stopping Mason.

Relentlessness is the best way to describe Mason, and he just kept pressuring the rim and battling against an athletic and big frontline. His broadshoulders and explosiveness give him an edge to make tough finishes, but it’s not just brawn that gives him an edge. He had moments of good footwork and getting low to use leverage to find that extra bit of space. Including a couple nice lefty finishes. Mason is a high floor prospect because of his athleticism and high motor playing style.

The junior put together an all-around performance against the Wildcats. Mason scored via 3-pointer, layup, free throws and even caught a lob from Coleman. The Eagles flexed their muscle in the fourth quarter and finally wore out Cashion. Mason provided stability as a ball handler and passer, reading the defense well early on and finding three different teammates for open 3-pointers. With the game tied at 39, Mason got fouled, hitting one of two from the stripe. From there, he lifted the defense after recognizing he was being face guarded to give Coleman a driving angle to go up by three. The very next possession, saw him attack off the bounce to his left from the top of the key before utilizing a euro step to get back to his right hand and putting it off the glass and in.

Mason likely doesn’t get enough credit for how flat out athletic he is. He made two wow plays in this contest that only a handful of kids in Oklahoma can. First came with a monstrous slam through the lane. The second was the second biggest play on the game. After a turnover late in regulation and the score tied, it looked like Riverside was going to have an easy layup to take the lead. Seemingly out of nowhere, Mason exploded and erased the shot at the rim. It’s that combination of effort and athleticism that will make Mason appeal to college coaches. Especially as he shot it a bit better from three. To go along with his usual punishing drives to the rim.

A bruising guard who has powered OCA into Class 2A State Title contention. Plays strong and skilled on drives, either punching home dunks with authority. Or shrugging off contact like a running back to finish And 1s. He’s a consistent performer, who plays the game with a clear hunger. Which is a leg up on similar prospects, as playing hard has become a skill. Brings a similar mentality on the defensive end. The question surrounding Mason’s long term upside revolves around his three point shooting. Having watched him multiple times over the last year, he shoots it fine but it does not seem to be a strength. If he can dial in from three over the next six months, he’ll become a very highly valued prospects for regional colleges.

In some ways Mason is a no frills player. Sure, he can punch it home with authority around the rim for the highlights. But a lot ofhis game isn’t glamourous. He’s a hard noise player who college coaches would appreciate his hardhat mentality.
His scoring is often based around getting downhill and being tough. He has a good first step to first get by a defender, then the strength to finish through whatever the defenses throws at him. Had some nice switch hands finishes and is continuing to add to his dribble repertoire.

After a couple years at the home school ranks, Mason has joined an exciting OCA team. He’s been a bowling bowl getting downhill this month. Which continued at UCO, complete with improving athleticism. He’s starting to slam it home in the halfcourt. Plays physical but also can be deceptive to change his pace on drives. Makes for a dynamic duo with sophomore Coleman. They have the potential to change the landscape of the Class A State Tournament next March.

Matt was a standout two-way player, turning great defense into easy offense all weekend. The guard showed his defensive leadership by being 1st in steals and blocks for his squad. A decent finisher and shows some 3 level scoring ability. He showed good point guard prowess getting the offense into motion and assisting teammates. He stood out as a rebounder, especially for his position, as he was crashing the boards with maximum effort and good at pushing the break after securing possession. He pitched in largely to help his team to an undefeated weekend in pool play.
