in the Prep Hoops Circuit, I witnessed his remarkable ability to become an automatic offensive threat whenever he steps onto the court. His offensive skills were evident on three levels, and you could always count on him to score points. The rhythm he displays when he’s fully engaged offensively is truly captivating to watch. Defensively, he plays hard on that side of the floor, especially when he’s on the ball, preventing opposing players from scoring easily.
What’s Next for Matthew?
Matthew will be entering his sophomore year of high school, where I’m certain his skills will significantly improve this fall. His offense alone will pose challenges to opposing defenses. However, to become a formidable force at the guard position, he must continue to expand his game. With further development and growth in his physical frame, I believe Matthew has the potential to play college basketball by the time he graduates.

Matthew Cattan thrived when attacking the heart of the defense. He embraced contact and knew exactly how to finish after initiating it, either leaning into defenders to draw fouls or using crafty up-and-under finishes. His touch around the rim was consistently impressive, softly laying it in off the glass or floating it over the rim with finesse. A strong, physical driver with a high finishing IQ.

‘s offensive production is evident on the floor giving defenders problems with the ball in his hands. Offensively he scores in a lot of different ways with his ability to slice through defenders on his way to the basket, pull up for jumpers and get open on the three-point line. Matthew moves very well without the ball as he has a clear understanding of how to get open effectively. Defensively he plays really close to his opposition hounding them into bad decisions at times.
