About Matai

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My game is built on energy and defense. I pressure the ball, disrupt plays, and turn defense into offense. I love guarding the other team’s best player and making them work for everything. I'm able to score in different ways. I’m comfortable shooting from the outside, pulling up in the mid-range, or finishing at the rim. I adjust to whatever the defense gives me or what my coach needs.

“I believe in constantly improving. I take feedback, learn from mistakes, and use every challenge as a chance to grow.”

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Played with PBA and TNT in Columbia MO

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

“I’ve built teamwork skills by understanding my role on the floor and being willing to sacrifice for the success of the group.” “I’ve learned how to stay positive and keep pushing through adversity, whether it’s a tough game, a mistake, or a setback.”“I’ve grown in being coachable, listening closely to feedback and applying it to get better every time I step on the floor.”

“As a younger player going up against older, stronger athletes, I’ve had to learn to use my skills, speed, and toughness to compete.”

What type of college are you looking for?

“I want a college that will help me grow as a player, a student, and a person, preparing me for life after basketball.”
