Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Varani is a highly athletic wing who can shoot the lights out, and he showed off just that at the Pop-Up, locating and drilling some deep 3-point shots, and running the floor for some above-the-rim finishes. He also displayed excellent hustle for a few loose balls, one that he chased half the length of the floor before it rolled out of bounds just beyond his reach.

Showed off a pure stroke from 3-point range and looks quicker and surer with his outside shot. A guy who can kill defenses with his catch-and-shoot chances thanks to his size and quick trigger. One of the most impressive high-flyers at the tournament too, and also showed great progress with his quickness with the ball and reactions out of various spots, working around defenders on drives and mid posts.

The lengthy shooter has a quick trigger from three and is averaging 2.6 3PM per game on the EYCL. He’s looked stronger off the bounce, more confident in his face-up game, and is still an excellent shot blocker at 1.8 bpg. He’ll be suiting up with the YNG Dreamerz in OTE next season with his combo of shooting, size, and freakish athleticism.

Varani has long been a name to watch with incredible upside. He has the length/athleticism to block shots at the rim and have some high-flying finishes on the other end. His 3-point shooting is another separator and he should get plenty of opportunities to show his skills at Elite Futures Prep this year.

Varani is a spectacular athlete who shows off a sweet shot from outside. At his best, he’s a kid who can finish high above the rim, send back shots all over the floor on the defensive end, and drill 3s with deep range. He’s got a super high ceiling but this year will be a big one for the highly talented guard.

He reminded me again why he’s an elite level prospect. At 6-foot-7 he can play all over the floor. He made a huge block, high above the rim, but made it look easy rising up to send the shot back. He hit a couple of really deep threes with ease and rose up for some monster dunks in transition. In between all of that, he showed some ability off the dribble, but also still looks like he’s feeling out his new teammates a bit after spending the last season at BFL Prep.

Varani came in at seventh in the last edition of the rankings but has since shown a much more dynamic attacking profile while he continues to improve the physical attributes too. He now stands at 6-foot-7, is quicker making that first step and bursts in small spaces, and still has that deep-range we’ve seen in past seasons. He’s had some experience with the Italian U16 National team and returned to Italy for part of this summer to train and play with a European prep team. And it seems the added work and competition has done him well, also playing against some top competition with BFL Prep last high school season.
Now, back at Bellevue, Varani has a chance to help the Wolverines make a big run in the 3A. He has been in contact with multiple D-I schools and should see his recruitment start to pick up with a strong high school season.
