had 16 points as well as several rebounds and blocks for Fairmont Prep in a tight 42-40 win over Orangwood Academy. Maker is just about 7″ if not 7″ in shoes and certainly utilizes his length well. Maker makes a lot of contributions that end up in the box score but the one thing that doesn’t, and is perhaps equally as important, is how many shots the other team takes at in-between range rather than getting into the paint simply because of his presence. Teams begin the game prepared to be aggressive against the big man but if he avoids foul trouble you can quickly see that desire fade away as shot after shot is sent back. Maker needs to work on his balance with the ball, but otherwise his game is trending in a “coaches are lining up for him” direction.

On Sunday Fairmont Prep played against SCA National in an extremely hyped matchup between Maker and the D1 bound Rams frontline. Although he didn’t have the most efficient day shooting the ball or scoring against Drew Fielder and Juslin Bodo, Maker showed why he is a D1 prospect. The younger Maker brother is agile and does a great job of challenging and keeping his arms straight up around the rim. He has the tools to be effective from outside as he showed a good stroke and range in warm ups. He also displays a good handle for his size and has the potential to be able to push the ball and create for himself as well. We will keep an eye on Maker and track his progression as he adjusts to the competition in Southern California.
