Expert Analysis

Cypress Creek has had a tough stretch of games to start the year. However, Castro has been a consistent presence, averaging 14 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 steals over their first six outings. Castro is a strong athletic presence and plays with an attack-the-rim mentality. His baseline drive attacks are poised, utilizing floaters and spin moves, and his ability to play off two feet is impressive.
Currently sitting at 717 career points, he has the potential to join the 1K point club towards the end of the season if he remains consistent. Given that defenses often load up against him, he creates gravity that helps his teammates get quality looks. He is adept at distributing the ball when his teammates are open, earning almost 3 assists per game. His solid rebounding and nearly 2 steals per game demonstrate his capability as a strong two-way player.

2023 stats: 14.0 PPG – 5.8 rebounds – 1.2 steals
Castro has been on my radar since balling out at our Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo Event where he showed off great toughness and resilience to finish as a top standout. He’s a physical guard prospect that can get him near the paint or surprise you with a decent jump shot. Castro also makes an impact on the defensive side with good anticipation skills and on-ball defense.

Manuel Castro, A 6-3 junior guard plays both ends of the floor with an extremely high motor as he can create for his teammates with his creativity when he has the basketball in his hands. Castro can score in the open space as well as finishing above the rim on the attack. On the defensive end, he is an excellent rebounder for his size and uses his athleticism along with quickness to get out on the break. Look for Castro to have an emerging junior season where college coaches should be on his radar by the spring.

No doubt, Castro should have been in my overall top standouts after reviewing the film. His ability to score with or without the ball and constantly be a menace on defense can take him to the next level. He simply took over a game near the end against one of the better rosters at the event. He flashes euro steps, crashed the boards, and made most of his contested layups. Really impressed with Castro’s performance this weekend.
