Expert Analysis
Jason Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
He does a nice job directing traffic as a leader. He is quick with the ball, shifty, stride steps and gets downhill. On the other side of the ball he is great at beating guys to the spot, guarding different opponents and strips the ball even when the ball seems protected. He is a scorer that is able to make some tough baskets falling off balance, euro fake pass layup, active pivot foot split two defenders baseline layup and turnaround elbow jumper off a blob one more. His tenacity is unmatched and believe a D3 coach should grab this player before it’s too late.

Brown, a big time scoring guard at Monument Mountain, kicked off the year in December with a 50-point game. He’s since followed that up with two 35+ point games in January and a 31-point outing in his most recent game against Belchertown. One of the top scorers this winter in the MIAA, Brown has in the gym range on his jumper, a quick first step as a driver, and good length that he utilizes around the rim as a finisher. He can handle in tight spaces, knows how to get to his spots off the bounce, and does a nice job of creating space in the mid-range to get into his pull-up jumper. He’s crafty around the rim and can finish over size in a variety of ways.

Brown, a high scoring guard at Monument Mountain, currently has his team sitting at 15-1, ranking 4th in Division 4. A new member of the 1,000 point club, Brown is a versatile scorer that has the ability to get buckets in transition and in the half-court. He’s a long prospect on the perimeter that uses a quick first step and good handles to keep his defenders off balance when attacking the hoop. He has deep range on his jumper and is able to score from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations as well as off the bounce. Defensively, he’s instinctive in passing lanes, allowing him to create steals that lead to easy baskets in transition. With his ability to go off for 30+ points on any given night, he’s capable of helping Monument Mountain make a deep run this postseason.

Brown’s feel for the game is what stands out above all else. He has a great understanding of ball and head fakes that he uses to get defenders off balance and glide his way to the rim. He’s also got a skillful handle and vision to go with it, and he can make shots from everywhere on the court. His size and strength will absolutely be his limiting factor, but something tells me he might not be done growing and could be a very late bloomer in that regard. He should definitely find a D3 fit.

Brown is a smooth offensive player with a really nice feel for the game. He uses ball and head fakes very effectively and can score from all three levels. He also makes quick decisions and has a great understanding of how to set up his teammates. Brown’s older brother, Dion, is a 6-foot-3 junior on Boston College’s basketball team. If Brown can get to that height, I would imagine he’ll be a high level D3 guy.
