Spring 2025 will serve as Butts’ breakout stretch of play on the recruiting scene. This lefty point-forward impressed again at the Spring Jam Fest with an extraordinarily versatile skill set. This past weekend, Butts operated as a small forward, wing as well as point guard and found success at all three positions. Butts showed he can drain treys from all around the arc and from logo distance. He also displayed craft handles as he used change of pace dribbles to shake his defender and get into the lane for floaters and lay-ins. His court vision and precise passing combined to produce numerous highlight worthy dimes. With his athleticism, quick second jump and nose for the ball, Butts was a dominating rebounder too.

Easily among the more naturally gifted prospects in the entire region, Butts put together some tantalizing stretches over the course of last spring and summer’s EYBL campaign, and will now take his talents to the HGSL looking to vault up D1 recruiting boards. Butts stands out immediately as a natural ballhandler and playmaker at his size, stringing dribble moves together on the perimeter and showcasing advanced passing vision on the move. He shows high-level flashes as a shotmaker from deep, both off the catch and on self-created attempts, while starting to blossom both physically and athletically to be able to make more of a routine impact near the rim. It will be a big grassroots season for Butts to show he can keep his motor running hot and adapt his game into tighter structure, but there’s no denying the talent is there in spades for the right mid-to-high level program to harness down the line.

In 2024-25, this lefty point-forward displayed a much-improved offensive skill set. Butts had operated as a “big guard” who could muscle his way to the rim off the dribble for a bucket. He also used his speed and handles to go coast-to-coast for scores and assists. Then during his junior campaign, Butts (13 ppg.) proved he could operate as pass first floor general and splash threes from all over the court. This season his court visions and live dribble passing have ben impressive. Plus, he increased the range on his shooting stroke. A highlight for Butts this season was his 24-point (4 3PM) performance against La Academia Charter. At the other end of the court, Butts is a plus defender who can switch 2 through 5.

Among the more naturally talented prospects in the state, Butts had dashes of his dynamic skillset on display throughout the game to keep West Philly in striking distance. Despite his size, he’s at his most comfortable playing on the ball, showing a natural rhythm to his handle with creative passing instincts. While he can take some tough shots at times, he shows to be a reliable shooter from range when in rhythm with enticing flashes in the pullup game. Most encouraging was Butts’ level of engagement defensively and on the glass. If he can keep his motor running, we’ll be eager to see how Butts’ talent can be adapted into more structured settings with D1 talent around him.
