Nkugwa, a junior guard out of the Governor’s Academy, has had multiple 20+ point games already this season. An athletic guard, he’s a dynamic ball-handler that can get anywhere he wants off the bounce and is a creative finisher around the basket. His ability to make plays with the ball in his hands stands out, as he has an incredibly quick first step and the ability to elevate over defenders as a scorer. He continues to show the ability to make tough shots in the mid-range and to be an efficient scorer from behind the arc.

Nkugwa was one of the few bright spots for Governor’s Academy in a tough loss against a talented Frederick Gunn squad. The 6-foot junior has a herky-jerky dribbling style and does a good job using his first step quickness to get by defenders, but it was his three point shooting off the dribble that surprised me more than anything else. He normally prefers to get to the paint and look for layups or mid rangers, but his perimeter release looks better than it has in the past and his confidence is clearly at an all time high shooting-wise. Let’s see if he can continue this momentum moving forward and earn himself some high D3 looks.

Nkugwa, a guard out of the Governor’s Academy, showed impressive quickness and plus instincts on the defensive end of the floor. Few guards could match Nkugwa’s quick first step, something that allowed him to repeatedly getting into the paint off the bounce. His quickness also stands out on the defensive end of the floor, where he does a great job of keeping the ball in front of him while pursuing steals without fouling. He’s a blur in transition and does a great job of putting pressure on the rim throughout a game.

Nkugwa, an athletic scorer out of Governor’s Academy, has played some of his best basketball this spring for Team Sims on the UA Rise circuit. He’s one of the most explosive mid-range scorers in the northeast, showing the ability to create space with his dribble and elevate quickly into his jumper. He’s a good verticle athlete, but also shows quick twitch movements going laterally. He can operate on or off the ball and is an impressive finisher in the paint. Defensively, he’s a terrific point of attack defender with quick hands and quick feet. The 2027 prospect has scholarship level tools and could start to rack in offers as soon as this summer.

I’ve seen Nkugwa play many times over at Governor’s Academy, but he was a lot more aggressive creating offensively for his Team Sims squad. The 6-foot combo guard is super quick and jolty with the ball in his hands, and he’s able to shoot it from the midrange and three, which makes him a pretty tough cover. He’s also a great athlete at the rim who can fly in transition and take contact from opposing bigs effectively. Nkugwa plays with an energy and motor that’ll keep him on the court for Governor’s Academy next season, and some added offensive reps there will be really good for his development.

Magezi is the younger brother of Momo, which bodes well for his athletic ability and quickness, especially as he gets older. Kkugwa is an excellent on-ball defender who slides his feet very well and has active hands – these are skills I’ve seen in previous Governor’s games. But today, he showcased an offensive bag I didn’t know he had; he got into the paint with a solid first-step and handle, and he also showcased a beautiful mid-range game. He’s patient, controlled, and strong, and I’ll be very curious to see whether he continues to grow and get more athletic like his older brother.
