Looking physically at Hieber on the hardwood, it’s no surprise that he can throw straight gas on the mound. Recently topping out at 92 MPG, Hieber will bring power to the Ohio State pitching staff as the program looks to establish itself as a national brand. Winning Division VI co pitcher of the year as a junior, Hieber had a 1.07 ERA with 89 K’s in 52 IP.

Another future Buckeye in this article, Hieber is one of the top baseball prospects in the state and announced an early commitment to Ohio State in the fall of 2024. A powerful right handed pitcher, Hieber uses his size and strength on the hardwood and was one of the top double-double threats in northwest Ohio last season.

An Ohio State baseball commit, Hieber is not the only dual sport athlete featured in this article. Patrick Henry is one of the top rural northwest Ohio programs and Hieber is a big part of their success. I’m hoping to catch their program in the playoffs this season. In the last game of 2024, Hieber scored 27 points in a win over Columbus Grove. A prospect who would be a priority small college recruit on the hardwood, Hieber has his heights set much higher on the diamond.

Hieber is a straight sniper. He is what you would want from a modern wing. He has great height and athleticism in his game. He can guard a lot of positions and also play the big on a small ball lineup. He has an unconscious stroke from beyond the arc. If you give him an inch, that’s three points. He has a quick release that is almost uncontestable with his length. He comes off-screen with great speed and footwork that allows him to get great open looks. I expect him to be a player that will catch some college’s attention.

One of the more impressive freshmen I’ve seen this season, Hieber was getting face guarded by Marion Local in the second half to make sure he didn’t get a clean look from the outside. A big time shooter, Hieber knocked down a couple 3-pointers and mid-range shots. Still needs to develop physically, Hieber will be much more dangerous with an off-season in the weight room where he can focus on getting stronger and quicker. Already has a lot of skill with the ball on the perimeter, I’m excited to monitor his development over the next three years.
