Catholic was very young this past season and Mac was thrown into a bench role right from the beginning and saw his minutes climb as the season went along. Aaron is a very heady point guard who doesn’t make a ton of mistakes with the ball in his hands. Long term, Mac should be a scholarship level player and looks like he’s still growing in addition to developing his skills.

It’s rare that Catholic plays freshmen, especially many of them but the Knights are relying on a youth movement this year. Aaron has impressed with his court vision and passing this year. Mac hasn’t put up any big scoring numbers but he’s very steady at the point right now and is showing he can be a floor general and is comfortable running a team.

Mac continues to improve with each viewing. When I first saw Mac about 18 months ago, he looked good in a workout setting but needed more game experience so he didn’t look nervous at times. It appears Aaron has turned the corner in that regard. The way Mac pushes the ball and excels in the midrange reminds me of former UK point guard Cliff Hawkins from the Tubby Smith era. Obviously, Mac is nowhere near that level of player at this time but his game reminds me of Hawkins in a lot of ways.
