How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I am a well scoring pass first point guard. On offense I am always able to create an advantage for our team by beating my own defender and making the right play afterwards. Defensively I love to pressure guards, and am extremely good at getting steals without gambling myself out of the situation.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
Briefly put my mentality is to outwork everyone and win every single competition. I see everything as a competition, not only of who is better, but who wants it more.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am an officer of the IB club at my school. The IB club is a club for all the students taking IB classes, but mainly for people like me, doing the IB diploma program. The point of this club that we created is to give support to anyone who needs help in their classes, and to help the younger students get better integrated into the ways of the diploma.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
As the captain of my varsity team since 10th grade, captain of JV in 9th grade, and captain of my middle school team in 7th and 8th grade I have had to learn a lot about leadership and teamwork. Me learning how to deal with my teammates problems and helping them get through them has made a huge difference in the team dynamics over the last years.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I've been privileged enough to not have faced any significant challenges, but the hardest thing I have done was moving from Finland to Mexico in 9th grade. I didn't know the language nor the culture, but through basketball I was able to make friends and make this place feel like my home. Looking back this has been a great learning experience and I have enjoyed every step of it.
What type of college are you looking for?
A school with great academics that strives to play good basketball where making the right decision and putting in effort on defense is highly valued.
