Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Another experienced piece stepping into a primary role for his senior year, Buhrman has thrived for years as a jack-of-all-trades complementary wing in support of all-state forward JJ Kelly (now at D1 Ohio University). He’ll take on more of a scoring and creation load this year, showing off a cerebral halfcourt skillset with real viability as a dribble/pass/shoot threat. The lanky swingman shows comfort across multiple positions within offensive structure, showing himself to be an efficient mismatch scorer and high-IQ facilitator from a variety of spots on the floor. While not the swiftest athlete on the wing and a bit undersized in the height and muscle departments for the ‘4′ at the next level, Buhrman fits a mold that has found success in the D2 PSAC or could really flourish id he slips to the small-college ranks.

An already solid player with a great feel for the game, Buhrman seems to play best when the lights are brightest, averaging more points and rebounds per game in the playoffs than the regular season, in addition to shooting a better field goal percentage. Landon has great footwork and looks to play off two feet every time he gets inside the paint. He fights hard on the offensive glass, creating second-chance points for himself or his teammates by kicking it out for an open look. His mid-range game is solid but if he can learn to shoot it from the perimeter consistently, his game will reach another level.

Despite a tough loss to a state title contender in Coatesville (PA), Buhrman showed he’s ready to take the reigns of the Chambersburg program after years of contributing as a valuable starter. A rangy forward, Buhrman’s strength lies in his versatility, as he’s a true jack-of-all-trades who’s able to do a little bit of everything on either end to help his team win. He’s comfortable as a floor-spacer out to the perimeter or opportunistic finisher near the rim, while also showing added elements as an on-ball playmaker with the departure of all-state forward JJ Kelly to Ohio University. While he lacks a bit of strength on the defensive end, Buhrman shows good toughness and instincts to use his length in passing lanes and to contest shots. A plug-and-play forward at the D3 level, he should have the chance to even catch the eye of some of the in-state D2 programs as a long-term piece in a smaller role.

His impact may not have been as voluminous or explosive as that of all-state teammate and all-world athlete JJ Kelly (a soon-to-be freshman at Ohio), but make no mistake, Buhrman has been a highly-valued contributor over the past several years for Chambersburg teams that have played into March. Now, it’s his turn to step up as the go-to guy for his senior year with eyes on another state tournament berth. Buhrman is a long-armed wing forward who makes an impact on both ends with his length and court sense. He routinely scores inside off cuts or 2nd chance opportunities while stretching the floor as a shooter off the catch to keep the D honest. He’s likely a bit undersized and too slow of foot for his combo forward role at the D1 level, but coaches from any number of D2 leagues would be wise to look past Buhrman’s athletic shortcomings in favor of his IQ and production.

Landon Buhrman has caught my eye for Chambersburg Academy. Landon has good touch around the rim and uses his length to be effective as a rebounder. I love Landon’s activity, and he’s racked up double-doubles this summer league. He does a good job using his length to be an effective defender as well. Landon went for 16 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Virginia Academy.

Buhrman is long armed forward who makes an impact on the game on both ends. He has a good feel for the game and lets it come to him naturally. Buhrman does a good job scoring off 2nd chance efforts or as a slasher. He needs to work on developing more strength and is somewhat of a positional tweener.

Coming on strong over the last couple years as a key starter, Buhrman showed a glimpse of what’s to come as a senior while leading the way for the Trojans in the last game of his junior year. Buhrman shines with his IQ, versatility, and efficiency while operating all over the floor as a jack-of-all-trades forward. He led Chambersburg with 15 points, scoring swiftly via quick-hitting cuts or catch-and-shoots. He’s a strong slasher as well, using his sturdy frame and polished skillset to work to the front of the rim and finish through contact. His game isn’t the flashiest and he’s at his best within a structured system, but scholarship-level coaches should be starting to track Buhrman as he hits the grassroots circuit.

Buhrman is a two-way, traditional small forwardwho stuffs the stat book for Chambersburg. On offense, Buhrman does his damage inside the arc via his accurate mid-range jumper, dives to the rim, quick post ups and the offensive glass. Buhrman also owns solid dribble drive skills. Thus, he can attack the rim off the bounce from both elbows. Buhrman’s respectable speed and finishing skills enable him to score in the open court. This season Buhrman averaged 12 points per night. But over the ‘Burg’s last four games he increased that scoring output to 15.3 points per contest. At the defensive end, Buhrman is a plus rebounder and underrated shot blocker.
