Gurus of Go won their bracket pool and Monterrubio was the engine for the offense on Friday night. The ball movement this team plays with is a big reason why many of their players will go on to play at the college level and why they draw so many coaches to their games. Making the extra pass is expected on this team and Monterrubio did that a few times to either get assists or hockey assists. Knocked down a couple 3-pointers, had a righty scoop finish and was in the right spots positionally. Massillon Jackson has a strong 2025 trio returning this season as they look to claim the federal league crown next winter.

(who has shown considerable growth with his body since the summer) and a player we’ll discuss next, but make no mistake Monterrubio is the straw that stirs the drink for the Polar Bears. A wing who impacts the game in a variety of ways, Monterrubio makes quick decisions and snaps the ball across the court with passes. He’s also able to post up and has soft touch with his left hand on acrobatic layups and post moves. One of my favorite kids to watch in the 2025 class, Monterrubio is a kid who flat out helps you win games. A bit undersized positionally and doesn’t really shoot the 3-ball yet, Monterrubio has ways to expand his game as a senior.

Monterrubio was a key member of a Gurus of Go squad that dominated the Adidas Gold 15 U circuit this spring and summer. With a style of play focused on ball movement and shooting, Monterrubio will feel comfortable this winter with the Jackson Polar Bears, looking to have the same success with a similar style. Monterrubio was the most impressive athlete on his Gurus of Go squad, having the most success beating defenders off the bounce and typically guarding one of the opposing teams best scorers. Monterrubio continuing to expand his offensive game will be a key this varsity season as Jackson lost a lot of guard talent. Monterrubio will have the chance to create for others and look to score for himself as just a Sophomore in a Federal league that requires toughness, experience and skill.
