One of the state’s elite tennis players, Hehli also excels on the hardwood. Though small in stature, his game is a big reason why West Salem has been so dominant in the Coulee Conference, winning the past three league titles and going 35-0 within conference play during that time frame. An honorable mention all-league pick as a sophomore and first-team choice as a junior, Hehli is wired to score, both off the bounce and from distance. He averaged 16.7 points and shot 83 percent from the free-throw line as a junior. He also made 73 three-point baskets and shot 36 percent from outside the arc. The 6-foot-0 combination guard begins his senior season with 873 career points.

Hehli returns as one of the team leaders on a West Salem team that has reached the WIAA State Tournament in Madison in each of the past three years. He is on pace to eclipse the 1000-point scoring threshold within the first half of the upcoming high school season. Based on past performance, he’ll get there by scoring at all three levels; deep threes, pull-up midrange jumpers, and hesitation and spin moves before attacking the basket. But Kyle’s game isn’t limited to scoring. He will penetrate and kick or make the dump-off pass if it’s there. A team-first player, last season he averaged nearly four assists per game. He is light on his feet and uses that ability to be a tenacious defender who creates turnovers and accumulates steals. While standing only 6’0″, Hehli is also an asset to his team on the glass, as he positions well for rebounds and fights for 50/50 balls.
