Dominating performance from the high upside wing prospect. Consistently killed off the dribble, either getting to the rim or draining mid-range jumpers. His spin move was particularly effective on drives. Flashed his next level athleticism with a big time putback dunk. Payne has been enjoying an impressive start with his new school against out of state competition. Seeing it in person makes it clear that he has made a further jump as his production is matching his potential. Type of prospect who even if his initial path out of high school is with a JuCo, he very well could find his way onto a D1 roster.

High upside prospect, who wrapped up his 17U season with a productive week in 3SSB play at the national level. Truly looked like a big guard with some of the dribble moves and head fakes. Switches gears very well for his size and had some fantastic finishes at the rim. With his wingspan, speed and jumping ability, thrives as a highlight reel player in the up tempo nature of AAU. Payne will be finishing up his prep career at Terra Verde, a non OSSAA program, but has some of the top 2026 prospects in Oklahoma.

If there’s a prospect that I’m overly worried that I’m too low on in 2026, it’s likely Payne. He checks a lot of boxes for next level basketball. With the height, wingspan and the fluid athleticism needed to be a perimeter player. There’s even moments he looks capable of one day playing in a high major conference. Which is even more possible now with the various routes and options that are available to players. He’s the type of prospect that it could only take a handful of plays, in front of the right college coach with the right developmental system for his basketball career to skyrocket.

After a quiet first half, Payne flashed the athletic traits and skillset that give him a high upside. He’s nimble and explosive for his 6 foot 6 frame. Pushing it in transition, and making it look easy when navigating through defenders. As he has good “wiggle” and “quick twitch” moves that make him standout as an offensive threat. He had a coast to coast take, that included great touch “giant killer” type finish that often is more associated with smaller guards. Payne has a lot of aspects to his game that can’t be taught, and is continuing to add more skill.

Kristian Payne showed game changing effectiveness on both ends as a high motor leaper who was quick off his feet with the reach to alter shots and grab rebounds out of nowhere. He showed off his ability to jump out of the gym on several occasions, but really impressed when he exploded for a two-handed power dunk through a bit of traffic.

Payne is a rising sophomore prospect and it looks like his basketball education has been kick started over the last six months. He was always interesting as a high motor, wing prospect. But now he looks that he could be turning into more of an off guard, or even a combo with some of the flashes of playmaking abilities and improved handling. If he continues this progression, he’s going to be a handful as with a tighter handle and his size he’ll be a player capable of getting to just about any spot he wants to on the court. As is, Payne remains a tenacious rebounder and potentially big time finisher at the rim with his leaping ability and big wingspan. Which is still a great foundation for a college prospect.

It wasn’t the most productive scoring game from the high upside wing prospect, but he still showed promise on two fronts. First was Payne using his mobility, big wingspan and activity level to be an impactful rebounder on both ends of the court. The second was potentially more promising as he displayed some strong playmaking chops. He’s got the potential to be a dynamic driver and attacker, and against swarming Knights defenders he often made the right read and showed good vision in handing out assists. With a big time upside, the rising sophomore seems to be knocking on the door of a huge breakout once he fully harnesses his strong natural gifts.
