Martin’s production already suggested there was something there, but seeing him against different competition helped confirm that his game travels. Who you do it against goes a long way in seeing how you measure up to the rest of the state and his varsity season was solid but we wanted to see more. Well at the Expo he stood out with how he played. There was not wasted movement, he played both on and off the ball and he really shot it well from deep. He got to where he wanted, was great coming off of screens and setting up and had some clean looks. He doesnt have to dominate the ball too much and that’s why I wonder if he’ll be able to bring that into his varsity season. If it carries over, expect a pretty big season where he gets on more radars. He rose in the rankings this go round. 

Martin has the numbers that make him look like he could be a pretty solid player in the state, but this was him showing that it goes beyond just who he’s playing against. I liked how efficient he was and he made only necessary moves. He didn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective and the more that I watched him, the more that I saw a sniper. He was hitting a lot of 3-pointers, he had a face game where he was creating for himself and he heated up at times. He didn’t only stick to the 3-ball but he had a couple of mid-range pull-ups with a defender in his face as well. He’s a shooting guard that creates space and can create for himself and players had a tough time slowing him down. He’s a shooter and player we hope to see more of, but I think he came in wanting to prove himself and did just that. He’s a name to know. 

Martin showed exactly the kind of flashes you want from a lead guard, giving a glimpse of what he can become. He’s quick off the bounce, able to slip into openings and put pressure on the defense in a hurry. When he gets downhill, he’s tough to stop, attacking the rim with confidence and control. What really stands out is his vision as he sees the floor well, picks up on developing plays and delivers passes that keep the offense flowing. There’s a natural feel to his game that you can’t teach. As he continues to put it all together, Carrillo has the tools to be a true floor general
