Expert Analysis
Chad Graham | Prep Hoops Scout
A complimentary scorer a season ago, Hunter Jr demonstrated his capacity to create for himself a higher volume during the summer and fall. But when the winter came, he scaled down some and became even more efficient. Hunter Jr knocked down threes in rhythm and generated open shots with 1-2 dribbles, while also crashing the boards and making plays on defense. By rounding out his game, he proved he can be a positive contributor on the floor for a D2 or Low-Major D1, regardless of whether or not his shot he’s getting designed touches.

Hunter is Swiss-army knife forward who impresses with his ability to make shots in the mid-range. Hunter shows flashes of putting the ball on the deck. If he is on a roll good luck stopping him. His best basketball is still ahead of him. Hunter does a good reading and reacting to the game on the fly.

As prolific a shotmaker as you’ll find in the states, Hunter has grown leaps and bounds since transferring up from Maryland as a junior. Having leaned out his frame significantly and matured in his approach, Hunter is much more consistent and efficient while using his ruthlessly dangerous jump shot to efficiently pour in buckets from all over the floor. Where he’s developed most notably is in his shot selection and commitment to using his frame on defense and the glass. With the possibility of a prep year in play, there looks to be further upside to tap into here for a scholarship-level program looking for a floor-spacing dimension on the wing.

A versatile stretch forward, Hunter has a smooth jumper that he can get to from anywhere. His catch-and-shoot game is potent from beyond the arc. But, when he has to create for himself, he also has the footwork to go east and west to get to his spots around the elbow or get off his step-back jumper.

A pure stretch four, Hunter Jr is one of the best shooters in the state, regardless of class. He is confident enough to catch-and-fire from wherever he’s spotting up, even from NBA range. His prowess from deep sets up his one-dribble pull-up from the high post. Hunter Jr can occasionally make plates from there too.
