Clayton Conover | Prep Hoops Scout
Westphal is far and away the best prospect at the 3A level currently, garnering division 1 interest from a swath of programs while reaffirming his abilities with Collective this past summer. Right around 7′ tall, he looks to make a point at the state’s best rim protector who can space the floor from distance. Still pretty young for his graduating class, he is among the highest upside names in the whole state. With Salida, Westphal posted 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game alongside a second team all-state selection last season. He brings one of the most unique skillsets of anyone 6’10 or taller in the state, set to excel at the collegiate level and step into conversations as a player of the year candidate.

As one of two 7-footers in attendance, Westphal already garners immense intrigue due to his rim protection and floor spacing upside. Bringing active hands in the paint, he works to deter entry passes or any sort of shot attempt down low. Quick rotating over on the help side, he was all over the place with his shot contests. As one of, if not, the tallest name in attendance Westphal excelled out of the pick and roll, quickly getting the ball up from the immediate catch.

, they continue to hold their own down low, not easily moved around. Offensively, Westphal has hit some eye opening off the dribble shot attempts, capable of stepping back for shots from the corner.

Westphal remains the best rim protector in the state, bringing great instincts and upside to the table as one of the youngest prospects in this class. At Salida and throughout the summer with Collective, the big has displayed shotmaking capabilities behind the arc, fairly dependable off the catch. His upside as a two-way, modern big man is worth the following.

Westphal is the biggest riser for the class by far, reaffirming his abilities as a shot blocker and budding floor spacer at roughly 6’10. Against the state’s top matchups, he has proven himself defending the post, bringing great instincts to contest attempts around the rim. Another area of value has been perimeter shooting, displaying soft touch on attempts off the catch or the occasional step back jumper. Continuing to progress as a passer along the perimeter, he possesses immense potential on both ends of the floor, easily the highest upside small school athlete in the state.

One of the biggest risers this summer, Westphal has proven himself as one of the best shot blockers in the state while displaying upside spacing the floor. Showing confidence in step-back threes, there are not many 6’10+ guys in the state capable of knocking those down, let alone with some consistency. Against smaller teams, his passing vision was on full display, hitting baseline cutters with ease.

never stopped rebounding or getting dunk put-backs whenever possible. Westphal oozes passion for the game and sparks sequences for Colorado Collective. Listed at 6’11, he backed his height up, scoring at will and rejecting shots left and right on the defensive end.
