Expert Analysis

Blackwolf electrifies with the pride he plays with. Scored 28 points and clearly the emotional heartbeat of the Eagles. He is an outstanding finisher for his size, as Crossings has taller players but Blackwolf is burly and unflappable. He’s a hard nose future D1 football player who makes watching basketball in Oklahoma that much more fun. He’s one of the most varsity experienced Eagles. As his teammates continue to grow beside him, expect them to shake off this recent rough patch and be squarely in the mix to the make 5A State Title game come March.

The football star is important glue for the Eagles. He’s already played a lot of basketball after starting the past two years for first El Reno then Del City. There were some signs of football rust but his savviness was still vital for the win. Knows the spots to attack against zone, then plays unselfish and tough basketball. Helped bring the toughness down the stretch to pull out the win.

Blackwolf is a battler, which makes sense given his background as a highly touted football recruiter. Which also often gives him an advantage to a bully as a defender, but he has a well round feel for basketball. A hooper in the body of a D1 linebacker makes for an outstanding defender.

On a team filled with football-basketball standouts, Blackwolf could be the toughest. Built like a tank, he’s a rock solid finisher around the rim. Who also snatches rebounds with strong hands and good athleticism. Steady grinder, who one second will be battling down low. Then the next helping to trap and race around the perimeter. Even played a full possession without a shoe and zero complaints. Newcomer to Del City, but fits like a glove for the hardnosed, successful 5A program.

Kaleb is a strong, fundamental, all-around player. He is a sturdy built player that will wear opponents out with his power and agility. He was a clear double-double threat every game, whether it was points and rebounds or points and assists. He was an exceptional defender, he adjusted to switches well and made stops in the post and around the wing. He has the ability to score efficiently at all three levels. He’s hard to defend in the paint because of great footwork and strength to get defenders out of the way. When it comes to shooting, he fares best as a catch and shoot player who can hit his free throws. He shows flashes of a pull up jump shot but gets downhill more often. He showcased his skill by averaging 15 points and 9 boards over 4 wins this weekend.

One of the misses in the first edition of the rankings came with the exclusion of this highly productive freshman from El Reno. In watching back a tough contest against upperclassmen laden Guthrie, Blackwolf has a great combination of athleticism and a mature feel to his game for a youngster. He’s not a “wow” you jumper as an athlete, but he’s strong and very functional in how he moves. Including how he tracks down rebounds out of his area and competes on the defensive end.
Blackwolf has the potential to be a big time finisher at the rim. Which he already is quite good at, as he’s willing to play off two feet and not always try to drive into the teeth of the defense. Another mature aspect to his game is his passing, especially as he offers an unique option as an offensive hub type player on post ups or making the right decision in transition. With Blackwolf shaping up to be a standout in football as well, expect to hear a lot more from the promising El Reno youngster.
