This was the second weekend this month I was able to see Welch compete at an elite camp, and he once again made his presence felt. Welch is a ferocious attacker who uses his blend of size, strength, and speed to consistently wear down opponents. He was one of the best scorers I saw throughout the entire camp, showing the ability to put pressure on the defense and find ways to produce. Welch is a prospect who should be firmly on the radar of scholarship-level programs.

Welch is a Tasmanian Devil of a downhill guard who thrived throughout the event with his relentless ability to put points on the board. Anytime the ball is in his hands, he is a threat to make a loud play, whether that comes from attacking the paint or creating opportunities for his teammates. Welch also showed a knack for jumping passing lanes, coming up with steals, and quickly turning defense into offense. He is a capable shooter from deep, though becoming more efficient with more reps from behind the arc would add another layer to his offensive game. I also like the size he brings to the lead guard spot, which allows him to see over defenses and create passing angles. Welch showed that he can find teammates in a variety of spots, giving him another dimension as a playmaker.

The do-it-all wingman made his mark on both ends of the floor. Streaky shooter played clutch minutes in a double overtime AAAA championship game. Welch scored tough and-1 baskets late and knocked down key free throws at the end of regulation. With the ability to guard all 5 spots, the wing was utilized as a defense of stopper. Welch finished the game guarding the opposing full scholarship signed senior pg, giving him fits and stifling any attempts at penetrating. Stats are misleading as Welch makes play after play that won’t show up on a stat sheet.
