An old-school point guard in the sense that he wants to pass first and score second. Kaden’s ability to pass teammates open was second to none. His patience in the half-court and transition led to a variety of open looks for his teammates. Kaden was such a good passer that at times, his teammates didn’t see the pass coming and led to a turnover when it should’ve been an easy two.
He loves to play in pick and roll sets where he can distribute, hunt mismatches or turn the corner and finish at the rim. The mid-range game is a joy to watch when defenses are in drop coverage or when he breaks down a defender in the halfcourt. When the ball is not in his hands, the spot up shooting is a plus along with the hard cutting from the slot. The blend of playmaking, shot creation, and downhill finishing from Kaden made him one of the premier guards in the gym.
One of the more intriguing guards outside of the Top 50 from a physical standpoint is Ferguson. Kaden is a well-rounded athlete, also competing in football and track-and-field, which outline his physical traits. On the hardwood, he has shown flashes on multiple occasions, including the PHL Finals playing up with Upward Stars Upstate 17U. Ferguson is at his best when he can attack defenders with speed and strength, so as he continues to learn the game and how to play within the offense, he has the chance to be a really good player.
Ferguson was playing up in the 17U division last weekend, running with Upward Stars Upstate in their search for the PHL crown. He showed a lot of his offensive potential with second-half scoring flashes, putting up 11 points in a quick spurt with buckets at multiple levels. Even playing against older competition, Kaden’s physical traits stand out. He is a strong and athletic slasher who likes to get to the rim but can also knock down jumpers.
I am a big fan of the asset Ferguson is. An explosive athlete who pairs burst with impressive touch around the rim, he scores at a high level when attacking downhill. He finishes with control and creativity, making tough plays look routine in traffic. Beyond scoring, he consistently impacts the game in winning ways. He protects the rim with timely shot blocking and competes on every possession. His willingness to dive for loose balls and make hustle plays stands out. Overall, he brings energy, toughness, and a winning mentality. His ability to make multiple game shifting plays should attract more college attention as the summer progresses.
Kaden was an X-Factor off the bench with his two-way play in North Augusta. Ferguson made some nice plays defensively, picking up the ball at the timeline and making life difficult for his man. He also got his hands on some passes and had 3 steals. On offense, Kaden showcased his vision and handle when he had the ball, and also knocked down a pull-up jumper and a pair of free throws. Ferguson finished with 8 points in a win over James Island.
