About Jy’ell
Expert Analysis
Andrew Baxley | Prep Hoops Scout
Preston was on the opposing side of Lee in the second game of the day. Although the result didn’t go the way of the Titans, Jy’ell did show some really good things in a 17-point, 8-rebound performance. Trinity’s best offensive possessions came when Preston was close to the rim, either getting there off the dribble, catching it with position in the paint, or working on the offensive glass. Jy’ell is an explosive jumper off two feet, which leads to him playing with good composure around the rim, so if he can add a consistent jump shot to his game, Preston can be a good player at the next level.

. He was running with them this weekend after starting the season with a different program, but felt at home immediately with his former team. Jy’ell went for a double-double, tallying 24 points and 12 rebounds in Game Two. Preston is very athletic and has a strong frame. He will crash the glass and push the pace in transition or can score in the half-court around bodies and knock down the occasional spot-up three.

is a Wing from the Pee Dee Area who starts off our next Film Room Article. Preston’s tape featured a lot of transition success, both as a highlight finisher above the rim and as a passer when bringing the ball up the floor. Most of Jy’ell’s half-court scoring was around the paint as well, but he did it a few different ways including from the dunker spot, with his back to the basket, or on dribble drives. Preston checks a lot of boxes from a physical standpoint being listed at 6’5″ with good strength, athleticism, switchability, and a 3.7 GPA to go with it.

Preston is an intriguing prospect due to his positional size and athleticism. He has a very long frame that is strong with broad shoulders. Jy’ell showed some flashes around the basket on both ends, wiping a few shots away on defense and finishing with both hands on offense. Preston will work hard on both ends at all times and had his best moments fighting for loose balls that he desired more than anyone else on the floor.

Preston plays at Trinity Collegiate in Darlington for the Titans. Jy’ell really works for everything he does on the floor. He constantly hustles for loose balls, rebounds and just remains active at all times. He will look to work inside despite not being the biggest guy on the floor. One thing you can count on with him is full out effort at all times.
