In what would be the last game of his high school career, Delgado refused to go down without a fight as he nearly willed Nazareth back into the game after facing a 15+ point deficit. A workhorse of a hybrid forward, he thrived as the most athletic and hardest-playing guy on the floor. Delgado was effective around the rim as a driver, dumpoff threat, or transition finisher to the tune of 20 points on 9-for-11 from the field. He also flashed his passing ability in transition while creating extra possessions on the offensive glass and showing standout defensive ability as a switchable forward. What separates Delgado from a lot of guys in his mold is his ability to step out and knock down an open shot from the perimeter, as he hit one of his two attempts on the day. He’s consistently proven to be a winning player who could help any number of scholarship-level programs up to the D1 ranks if he doesn’t decide to go the prep route.

What makes a great player when he’s not scoring he impacts the game anyway. That’s what Justin did today. As I mentioned above with the two defensive plays. Plus got all the momentum back on the Nazareth side with an explosive dunk off the baseline. A three level scorer. Smooth stroke battles inside on the boards. Showed numerous times a shot fake drive leading to help defenders collapsing on him where he then found the open man.

Delgado has long been one of our favorite “glue guys” in the region, but looked to be acclimating well to a new role as a go-to guy for his senior year. The Swiss-army forward poured in a hyper-efficient 23 points while maintaining the level of activity and defensive intensity that’s become his calling card in years past. He feasted near the rim for a series of athletic finishes off cuts, putbacks, and transition leakouts while also stepping out for a clean corner 3 when the opportunity presented. Delgado also showed increased comfort using his quickness and ball skills to create his own shot off the dribble. His physical tools, versatility, and willingness to do whatever is asked for the good of the team should all position him well to impact winning at the next level whether it be in the D1 or D2 ranks.

One of the more improved players in the league this year, Delgado capped his junior season with a hard fought effort in a near double-double despite a narrow loss. A true utility piece at the forward spot, he showed his burgeoning versatility on both ends. Delgado really stands out on the defensive end, switching seamlessly across positions with the foot speed to corral guards and strength to take on wings and forwards. Not just a physical specimen, he shows a rare level of IQ and technique on that end for a high school player. Offensively, Delgado keeps things simple with an increasingly reliable catch-and-shoot stroke from the arc and an ability to pick up scrap points near the rim with his size and nose for the ball. More games like today will give him a real chance to play his way onto D1 radars with his winning approach and translatable skillset.
