A late bloomer, Ray played his best basketball at the end of his senior season which helped lead Westerville South to another district championship. Ray is a talented wing scorer who can create for himself with good size and is a big-time shooter from the outside. He took a while to figure out how to use his physical tools and natural ability to make an impact at the varsity level but I think Ray’s long-term upside is quite intriguing. After a productive senior season I think that programs from a variety of levels should be interested in Ray, including scholarship Division II and NAIA, JUCO and Post grad schools.

I just wrote about Ray’s performance in the district semifinal victory over city rival Westerville North. To check out that article click here, Ray will play for a district title on Saturday at 8 P.M. against Dublin Jerome in a rematch from last year.

A late blooming wing prospect, Ray played the best game I’ve seen him play on Wednesday night in Westerville South’s victory over rival Westerville North. Ray has really come into his own this season, figuring out how to impact the game with his natural talent. A good shooter from the outside, when Ray has his feet set it is likely going in. With his size Ray can finish around the basket and did so with both hands. Still very young in the face and still developing, Ray is the type of prospect a college program could redshirt and see the benefits later on in his career. I think scholarship programs should be all over Ray because his best basketball is going to come later in his college career but the upside is obvious.

A prime example of a late bloomer, Ray is making a huge impact for Westerville South as a senior after waiting his turn and seeing how some of the past classes competed under legendary head coach Ed Calo. Ray has a lot of natural talent with the ball in his hands and there’s few available prospects with his size and shot making ability. I’d expect Ray to be at the top of most Division III recruiting lists with scholarship programs inquiring about him as well.

Westerville South went unbeaten last regular season but graduate some seniors including star Drey Carter. The Wildcats will need somebody to replace his scoring output and Ray is a guy who could do just that. Ray has the size and shooting ability that gives him a unique upside to really break out. I expect Ray to have one of the steepest jumps in PPG in central Ohio from last season to this season.

Westerville South might’ve lost star Drey Carter to graduation, but don’t tell the Wildcats they are due for a down year.

is a prime candidate to replace some of Carter’s shot making and versatility from the wing position. I was impressed with how fluid Ray played for his Nova-Taylor squad this spring and he really caught some eyes during the last live period in July with strong performances in Fort Wayne. Ray should get a lot of attention from Division III and scholarship programs, playing for a deep Westerville South squad.
