Expert Analysis
Anthony Fortuna | Prep Hoops Scout
Josiah Stroughter was an entertaining player to watch this past weekend. On offense, he was slashing to the basket and throwing down dunks with some authority. I also noticed him drain a nice stepback 3 in the All-Star game. On defense, Stroughter had some deflections and steals. Overall, it was a solid showing for the new Utah Prep guard.

announced yesterday that he would be transferring to Utah Prep. He will join a couple of his Vegas Elite teammates there (Jackson Kiss and Anthony Felesi), along with some other highly touted recruits. If he can continue to put his floor general skills on display, his recruitment may pick up even more in the coming months. At the moment he holds offers from Portland St, UCSB, and Southern Illinois.

The Vegas Elite guard now has another D1 offer. Portland State offered him last week. He now has 3 total and looks poised for a big senior season over at Democracy Prep. I’m also looking forward to catching some of his fall league games and at the Border League tournament.

and the rest of his Democracy Prep team went to battle in a couple of close games down at Section 7. He dropped 28 points against Liberty (AZ), by hitting a ton of tough contested lay-ups. Thanks to his efforts, the Blue Knights escaped with a one point win. Then on Sunday, he and Democracy Prep almost rallied to beat Mesa after being down north of 15 points with 10 minutes left. Stroughter had his best shooting performance of the weekend, pouring in 3 triples. Unfortunately Mesa ended up winning by 1. Overall, he played with intensity and you could tell he left it all out there.

is currently playing with Vegas Elite’s 17U EYBL team. He is both a facilitator and scorer for them, as he gets downhill frequently and keeps his eyes up. His ability to make tough lay-ups is also a top skill of his and he side steps defenders utilizing crafty footwork. I’ll be looking forward to seeing him the the Blue Knights down in Arizona for Section 7.

put the team on his back in the first half. The Blue Knights found themselves down early, and Stroughter took it upon himself to get DPAC back on track. He started to use a variety of deceptive moves to get to the cup, and he drew contact almost every time. By the end of the second quarter he already had about 15 points. In the second half he was staying assertive and going to the basket on offense. Unfortunately on one of his takes he took a hard bump and had to be sidelined just about the rest of the game.

made a number of plays in DPAC’s game against Akron Buchtel on Wednesday to help them get the win. On offense he had aggressive takes to the rim, and drained some outside shots as well. On defense, he applied heavy pressure against the other teams point guard throughout the game.

. I’ve watched Stroughter play a lot this fall and he is incredible at attacking to the rim and making very tough finishes. He has some next level speed and also times his change of direction well. In the past few months I’ve also noticed him scoring more. Hopefully he can keep it going the rest of the high school season.
