Baskin has strength, quickness and the skill to get where he wants with the ball. He averaged 14 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season, so the production is not imaginary. Now comes the growth he demonstrated in summer development. Baskin now controls the game when the first move does not work a counter and the simple pass  The scoring will get attention. The demonstrated decision making will determine how much Bowie wins.

Joshua Baskin might be the closest thing to an unstoppable guard I have seen in a long time. His go-to move in the open floor is a devastating left-handed in-and-out dribble. From that same move, he can hit you with a hesitation, spin back, or snap into a crossover. Defenders are often left guessing and usually beaten. Once he gets downhill, he becomes a nightmare to contain. He can stop on a dime and bury the pull-up jumper. He can also blow past you and drop a perfect pass to a cutting teammate for an easy finish. What stands out most is his mindset. He does not care who gets the credit. He just wants the scoreboard moving in his team’s favor.

The kids call it “bag work,” but Baskin’s game is more accurately described as high-level skill wrapped in strength, quickness, and confidence. The lefty lived in the paint all weekend, getting to any scoring spot he wanted. His finishes were both crisp and creative, and his off-the-dribble pull-up is already a next-level tool. Baskin showed the ability to accelerate past defenders, absorb contact, and finish with touch. His long-range shooting has taken a meaningful jump, and in transition, he becomes a downhill problem. Defensively, he mirrors opponents well, uses his strength to cut off angles, and rebounds with purpose. Bowie looks like a team capable of making noise, and with Baskin steering the offense, their ceiling gets even higher. Several of their district matchups are must-see games.

He’s a rising prospect in Central Texas. He’s a confident scorer who can attack off the dribble and finish through contact. Baskin has a smooth release from the perimeter and can stretch defenses when left open. He’s athletic and can play with pace in transition, pushing the ball and creating for himself and others. He competes on defense with energy and uses his length and quickness to disrupt passing lanes. With more work on shot creation and decision-making Baskin can be a mid-major guard in his class.

Baskin plays with confidence and a scorer’s mentality. He thrives attacking closeouts and uses a quick first step to generate rim pressure. His ability to finish with touch on the move separates him from peers at this stage. On the defensive end, he has the length and instincts to create turnovers and push tempo.
