Expert Analysis
Mark A McKnight | Prep Hoops Scout
The kids call it “bag work,” but Baskin’s game is more accurately described as high-level skill wrapped in strength, quickness, and confidence. The lefty lived in the paint all weekend, getting to any scoring spot he wanted. His finishes were both crisp and creative, and his off-the-dribble pull-up is already a next-level tool. Baskin showed the ability to accelerate past defenders, absorb contact, and finish with touch. His long-range shooting has taken a meaningful jump, and in transition, he becomes a downhill problem. Defensively, he mirrors opponents well, uses his strength to cut off angles, and rebounds with purpose. Bowie looks like a team capable of making noise, and with Baskin steering the offense, their ceiling gets even higher. Several of their district matchups are must-see games.

He’s a rising prospect in Central Texas. He’s a confident scorer who can attack off the dribble and finish through contact. Baskin has a smooth release from the perimeter and can stretch defenses when left open. He’s athletic and can play with pace in transition, pushing the ball and creating for himself and others. He competes on defense with energy and uses his length and quickness to disrupt passing lanes. With more work on shot creation and decision-making Baskin can be a mid-major guard in his class.

Baskin plays with confidence and a scorer’s mentality. He thrives attacking closeouts and uses a quick first step to generate rim pressure. His ability to finish with touch on the move separates him from peers at this stage. On the defensive end, he has the length and instincts to create turnovers and push tempo.

Baskin showcased exceptional ball control, using his right-handed handle to navigate through heavy defensive pressure. His ability to change directions on a whim, even in tightly contested situations, was impressive. When it seemed like an offensive play had stalled, Baskin often found a way to create something from nothing. His craftiness and unpredictability made him a challenging cover for defenders.
