Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Zhang, a wing out of the Groton School in Massachusetts, checks in at #20 among the small forwards and #88 overall in this update. The 6’4″ wing has a well developed frame, the ability to play on or off the ball, and some impressive shot creation instincts in the half-court. He does a nice job of playing at different speeds with the ball in his hands, can score it efficiently in the mid-range, and operates as a secondary creator in the half-court. He has good instincts as a scorer and the ability to make shots in bunches from behind the arc. He can defend up a position with his strength and does a nice job of making an impact on the defensive glass. He plays on the travel circuit with the Toronto Phantom.

Zhang is a key part of an upstart Groton School team that struggled at Huckins Rouse but is certainly improving. The sophomore is already 6-foot-4 and relatively built in the upper body, and he has the ability to handle the ball fairly well for his size. He doesn’t move like most players with his size and age combination, which makes me intrigued for what he can look like in a couple years. Right now, he can shoot the ball from three and has some really nice takes to the rim, he just has to get more under control at the hoop when finishing with contact. Zhang has lots of time to figure it out, but he is definitely a bright spot for Groton moving forward.
