John functions as a hybrid guard/wing for the St. Francis Episcopal Wolves this season and has been a key performer in many of their games with his contributions. Laboy knows how to control the offense effectively with the ball in his hands and makes sound decisions with high IQ. He can get to the basket against tough defense or knock down an open jumper from the perimeter/mid-range. He plays with great pace and is effective on the fast break. John currently is a Columbia commit, but had offers from Texas State, Columbia, and UC Riverside.

John Laboy John Laboy 6'3" | CG St. Francis Episcopal | 2025 State TX will shoot over practically anyone who is defending him, it doesn’t matter who is guarding him. Offensively he does a lot of things well with the ball in his hands. With the ball he uses his athleticism to create separation away from defenders to get shots off on all three levels. Also, with his athleticism he gets to the rim quickly blowing past defenders to get opportunities in the paint. Defensively he made some great plays on the ball with his aggressive defense coming away with hustle plays that helped Saint Francis Episcopal win games throughout the OTR Fall Shootout. 

John is a talented 2025 guard with a lot of upside potential going into this season and his most impressive attribute to me is his physical defense and ability to guard the best player on the court. Multiple times over the summer, he was matched up with taller quicker guards and he held his own. Laboy also can score the ball and finish tough layups through contact as well as possessing a filthy midrange jumper. John currently holds offers from UC Riverside, Jacksonville, LA Tech, Texas State, and FIU and has interest from Cornell, Brown, Columbia, Seattle, and North Texas.

Especially in transition, his speed and ball-handling skills allowed him to push the pace and create opportunities on the break. He has a quick first step, which enabled him to blow by defenders and navigate the defense, getting to any spot on the floor he pleased. His great use of the off-hand kept space between defenders for straight-line drives.
